On Moose, south of the BWCA boundary line, is no limit on motor size? If so, do you see people in that area with bigger boats, tubing and such as you find on White Iron? Or given the limited area are most people using 25 hp max? There are some cabins on Moose and I’m wondering what it is like in that area of the lake.

I watched someone water skiing on Lower Moose Lake once if that helps paint the picture....

Indeed that does help, Tom. Thanks.

Once you get into the bwca there is a limit. But I’ve seen people paddle fast enough to tube behind. Haha. Generally the boats stay to the west side and the canoes the the east as they motor or paddle up. Never been an issue for me...

Thanks, Ben. Unfortunately we are skipping this year. Just been wondering what it is like on Moose for next year. Stephanie likes to row but White Iron can be pretty busy with motor boats and skiers. So I was trying to think of quiet places to row. Due to the rowing it has to be outside the BW. So just daydreaming for now. We will have to do breakfast at Brittons next year.

I have never run into an issue with larger motors. Most of what I have seen was 25 hp regardless of where I was on the chain. Generally speaking people are nice and give a wide pass and slow down.

Thanks. Larger motors might be an occasional thing. And we used to water ski behind much smaller motors than what I see these days.

I really hate when a motor boat slows out of courtesy. When they are planing at speed there is little wake. Those that slow down as they pass create a large wake. At least that has been my experience, especially on the St. Croix river.

The big cruisers on the croix largely have no idea what they’re doing it seems. But I agree, in my 16 footer with a 25 you want me to go by wide open or just idling. Going like 5mph is about the worst thing I could do to you (no power trim)
