For those beginners out there, I just posted a short 10 minute Youtube video about my favorite way to clean a walleye! I had a great day of fishing on Wind Lake in July so I decided to shoot it while I was in the BWCA for dramatic effect. I hope to have a ton more BWCA focused videos soon. Let me know what you guys think, and if you have any tips and tricks for cleaning walleye that you have learned over the years.

I've always done them that way....but left the very end of the fillet attached by the tail so you can flip the fillet and use the weight of the fish to help when getting the skin off. I clean panfish the same way....really the only fish I do differently than this method are pike.

Good video, thanks. I leave the fillet on the tail, helps when removing the skin. Then I make a vee cut and it’s a boneless skinless walleye fillet. On the ones we bring home we leave a patch on.

For example. "



This is exactly how we fillet our Walleye. They go into a pile and in the freezer. Then at home everyone knows they get a nice clean fillet to bring home and eat. We also remove the cheeks and wings and put between each fillet, leave a patch of skin to identify it too.

Nice fish. I like how he used the BWCAW as a location, but he actually could have done it in a more controlled setting -- or at least done the whole process on a rigid cutting board -- if his top goal was to provide detailed visuals for his directions.

I'll cut straight through to save time when out in the woods. Never felt that a little blood or guts that's rinsed off right away would taint the taste of a fresh pan fried walleye fillet out there. :-)
