Last Wednesday, as I was searching for a nice site to spend a couple of nights, I came to the beach site near Miles Island, and the Palisades. I was excited to get the site, as I just saw 2 guys in a canoe leave. After landing on the beach, I walked up into camp, to find a mess. There were a couple tarps, and a tent that was taken down and laid flat, with a tarp on itr. There was a camp chair laying on it's side next to the fire pit and what looked like hammock straps still hanging in the trees. I left the site, and noticed the two guys that had just left the site, sitting at a nearby campsite, so I paddled over there. When I spoke to them, they had done the same thing I had, and said they saw me headed in that direction, and thought perhaps it was my camp. They said since it wasn't my camp, that they were going to go over there, and pack up the stuff, and stay there a couple nights. Then they would pack it out and take it to Seagull Outfitters, where they came out of.
When I went out, I stopped at Seagull Outfitters and made Debbie aware of it also.
Then I stopped in at Gunflint Outfitters, and talked to Mandy about it. She said she heard that a bear had come into camp, and they were forced to leave in the night. And were looking for someone to go back there and retrieve their gear. She said she saw a post on another BWCA site. So if anyone out there knows who's gear this is, or if it's yours, you might check at Seagull Outfitters, but do it right away, because she is closing Sept 30.

I read a post about having to abandon gear so I went into Facebook bwca group page thinking it might have been on there and I could provide some information about the abandoners. No luck finding it. I'm just got back last night from four days in Sylvania Wilderness with some paddling friends so am behind things. I'll check this thread later and if no one has been able to help, I can do more searching on FB bwca-related groups (there are several).

Good luck finding the gear owners. Great that the guys you met packed items out and brought to Seagull Outfitters.

I swear I saw a post somewhere not too long ago offering a reward for gear they had left and I think it was on Seagull. For the life of my I cannot find it right now.

There was a thread on facebook about recovering their gear a while back. This was not the instance. It was a lake further in but off the gunflint.
