Down here in NEGA the tufted titmouse is numerous and entertaining. Not at all shy. This one and its extended family rule the feeder all winter. They keep all the chipping sparrows in line and most others as well. The only birds that seems to have an edge in our neighborhood are the white-breasted nuthatches or maybe the red-bellied woodpecker. The titmice even successfully gang up on the squirrels.
We only feed in the winter to keep bear visits to the house environment to a minimum. We usually start mid-November, but the titmice are already scolding us for not getting THEIR feeder out.
