I’ve been waiting for the new GPS dog tracking e collars from Garmin and such a pleasant surprise to see it also offers inreach/ SOS capability. Seems to be a no brainer as it will save me $400+ on a stand alone Inreach.

Any other canoeing and upland hunters out there looking at this unit??

This sounds like a great unit for anyone who has dogs and hunts. I’ve not heard of this before. I really like the fact that it has the inReach built into the unit too. Possible uses could also be used for lost dogs in the woods. Our family dog was always picking up a deer trail and running for miles when we were Grouse hunting.

Do not know if it saves $400 as the Alpha and One dog reciever unit cost $800 to $1000, more like the cost is built in.
Of course I understand the money involved in hunting dogs and protecting that investment, looks to be a handy and useful unit.
May want to consider carrying a power bank with it as the battery life is somewhat short at 15-20 hours.

Thanks for the battery insight. I’m assuming that’s when used tracking dogs all day. I had planned to get both a dog trackEr and a stand alone inreach, so this combo unit does seem to save me some change. This unit is another $200 more than their prior dog tracker.

For canoeing, I’d only use to check in and in real emergencies, so I would hope the 16-20 hour battery life is enough, though it seems battery can drain quick when it’s initially looking for satellites. I’ll look more into battery life when not in use with hunting dogs.

Dang- I just compared the battery specs, and they aren’t even close. Assuming the hunting tracker was designed for day use, as most people don’t “backcountry” hunt with dogs. I would think 15 hours is enough to turn on, notify authorities and get a location out- especially where I’m headed, Im never going to be in remote places of the earth.

Is 15 hours adequate for an emergency situation? Seems like an open ended question. Again, I’m traveling with those that would care where I’m at- so only need is a get out of jail card- aka real emergency

I looked, but I'm put off by it being a touchscreen - touchscreens suck to use in the winter for sure, and aren't great in the rain either. I wish they could do it with physical buttons for everything instead.
