So last weekend while I was day tripping for the weekend around Fall Lake I saw a lot of guys taking their little motorboats up to Pipestone to fish. I asked a lot of them how they did and pretty much all of them were catching their fair share of crappies and walters.

I noticed they had the portage wheels on their boats which I have seen before but with this newfound appreciation for going north in the Fall I have now found myself interested in maybe coming up and trying to fish Pipestone myself and maybe some others.

Does anyone know if there is a place you can rent a motorboat with portage wheels around Ely?

I did a little looking online but wasn't coming up with anything.

Thanks!

Voyageur north outfitters mentions portage wheels on their a la carte outfitting menu. $9/day. They don’t rent the boats though I don’t think?

There is a nifty feature of this website that allows you to send a question to ALL
the outfitters. Tell them what you’re looking for and let us know what you hear back.

Pretty sure piragis in Ely rents them as well. Your challenge will be to find a place renting both boat and wheels together.

The wheels are attached to the boat. Not something you put under the boat.last I heard, there is a welder in town that fabricates them. They use motorcycle tires...
