A couple years ago I went with our church group to Urban Boatbuilders and we all made paddles. If you have not done this, it is super fun.

Well, the paddle languished in the garage for a long time because I am lazy and I did not quite know how to complete it. Yesterday a really gifted friend showed me what to do.

Beautiful paddle! You know, it’s not too late to sneak in one more short BWCA trip! No permit issues - no crowds!

Yeah and we just went in together, my daughter and I, on a used Kevlar canoe! She's got it with her and has already put it in the water twice! I hope I get a chance before it gets cold. My friend helped me so much with the finish.

That a good looking paddle.

It has potential...but lacking in what it was built for.

Great job Pastor. I like the way you turned the center Ash grain to the strong side, then turned the others to gain glue strength.

I had no idea I did that.

How long did it take to make the paddle? How far from finished was the paddle at the end of the class?

I'd be interested in a paddle making class, but it is less appealing if you leave with a half-finished paddle.

Chuckles, it was all finished except for the water-proof veneer. It takes one day at Urban Boatbuilders to glue it up, and the next day to sand it down. Then they send you home with instructions for finishing, I just did not do it because I'm lazy. You could do it! It is not that hard and the result is a fun item you can be proud to use. Get some friends together and try it!

Nice.
My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Timson made his own paddle... That damn thing had holes in it...

Paddle Class "

That is awesome! I'll add that to my 'post-COVID' to-do list.

Thanks.

Get a group and go! I have zero skills, and it was really a cool experience. Now, with our new canoe, I can actually use it!

Nice effort; constructive use of free time. Good luck in it's use.

BOB

P.S. Be careful; paddles and canoes are like alcohol and drugs; addictive.
