A While back I posted a Thread on a Solo trip, that I took a Trail camera along. Hoping to catch critters, while I was gone from camp, or sleeping.
I never caught any pics of critters, but a bunch of me !
I realized this wasn't all bad ! It was a Diary, A Visual Diary with time and dates, even temperature, of nearly everything I did in camp ! I've been viewing all 1643 pics of me, from this year's trip
. That may sound boring, but to me it gave me insight to my personality. Fun for sure !

I again this year on a 5 day solo. The camera, came along and was set up. No luck catching any critters, but I did have something around my tent, one night. I could hear something approach. The camera angle wasn't right to catch. It was on the right side, of the tent, next to my head. I slapped the tent side wall, and hollered. Nothing, I heard nothing run away. OK, I'm awake now. for about twenty minutes, nothing. Then again I heard the noise, this time on my left. Again slapping the tent, and a holler, revealed nothing. Still no pic as it wasn't in view, of the camera. Reasoning it was small, because it made no sound. It will puzzle me !

Next time you go tripping ? Take that trail camera ! Well worth the extra weight ! Maybe you will catch something to share here. At least you will have a good record of your wild nature around camp !

I've heard lots of things outside my tent, footsteps, leaves rustle and such.

The one thing I remember most is the same as your description. Like you, I slapped the side of the tent, yelled and there was nothing. In my case in retrospect, I honestly think I was in a deep sleep and heard the wind.

So how much does a trail camera weigh?

I brought one on my summer trip to Seagull Lake because of the increased bear activity in the area.
The only critter I caught on camera was my son mooning the camera when he got up in the early AM to go to the latrine.

Great idea! I have many cameras would be interesting to put in camp and also on some portages, see what people really do wile on the trail.haha Off subject but that's my favorite thing to do when I find a camera in the woods.... I wonder just how many people have seen my birthday suit butt lol.

Probably. I would have thought once was enough, scaring it off.

I got to thinking if that had been a Skunk? Slapping the tent might not have been a good idea !

There are some newer, smaller ones being made now that are fairly cheap and can run on as few as 4 AA batteries. Lithium AA's weigh less than alkaline and last longer in cold.

Fish gut piles are a fun place to place them - but even then most of the time I get nothing.

There are a lot of possibilities for the use of a Trail camera, while tripping.

A diary of the trip, catching visitors, two or 4 legged, weather monitor, even an aid to what might have happened if disaster strikes.

When trail cameras first came out I didn't care about them at all. Now I own many and they are so fun to see what is out there and you learn so much. Even put one in your yard if you live in the country. I get all kinds of critters at night.

I've got 6 trail cams.
. Just the other day, I bought a Cell-link.
It sends pics to your cell phone.a great add on

Yep. Made about 10 trips to pick up the remains of my lake trout. The only other thing I have captured was a bunny in my campsite. I love bringing trail cams out there.

Many times in the woods I will have a bear push them around the tree or literally swat them and breakem. They don't like there picture taken.

I clicked this thread hoping to see a Trail cam picture of a BWCA camper falling down.

Keeping one in the yard can be fun even if you're in the burbs. You'd be surprised what the camera will capture. I live in the burbs south of 694 and over the last 2 years I have photos of multiple trophy bucks, more does than I usually see from my tree stand, fox, coyotes, turkey, and of course the normal amount of suburban rabbits and squirrels.

Lots of urban or suburban wildlife out there.
