I’m just getting back into ice fishing from being away for years. I see a lot of these glow in the dark and ultraviolet lures on the store shelves but have never used them. Do you people find that glow in the dark lures, or jigs work better than a normal lure or jig of the same kind? Say one guy uses glow in the dark, one guy does not. Will one out fish the other guy? I will be primarily fishing for panfish this winter, but will also target some Pike and Walleye. Is there any technique in fishing these that I should be aware of, or something specific I need to do? Please advise to help me put some fish on the ice. Thanks in advance.

From my experience, once the sun starts setting -> after sunset, glow jigs/lures largely out fish non glow.

One thing that seems to trigger bites is actually sending down a freshly glowed lure. They obviously lose their glow after a while, and even after a few minutes of no activity you can bring it up, reglow, drop back down and i believe it helps trigger bites greatly.

Sometimes fish like a lot of glow, and sometimes they don't. I like lures with just a touch of glow. It is definitely possible to have too much glow (sometimes.) Other times, not so much. See what I mean?
Let the fish tell you.

During the summer I like to fish for walleye in “stained colored “ lakes when I can. I find the walleye bite will be most of the day. Clear water lakes have more of a walleye bite in early morning and after sundown. And I find Glow blue, pink, orange and chartreuse catch more walleye by a large margin over non glow especially in stained lakes and at night in clear lakes.

I used to do a lot of ice fishing many years ago and used some glow jigs back then but there wasn’t near the assortment of glow jigs available back then vs. now. I had better luck back then on glow just before and after sundown.

i feel glow is a plus, i mainly use them in the winter under a tip up , but i have modified a CD9 for early season walleyes in the spring. now walleyes can see about as good as us during dark hours that we see during daytime. but glow might draw them in from a distance , but definitely brighter colors during dark times. the clam blade spoons have become a favorite of ours and as Lundo stated sometimes a more subtle gow or no glow might be better on a given day ? but these trebles with the glow bead has produces too and they have a nice glow also , i think from VMC ? also going to try a new larger treble for pike with a silver willow blade attached. i try to take tip up fishing to a new level , i said to myself one day while fishing in a group of people on tonka , what can i do to separate my tip ups from theirs.

i'll add this , for you tip up guys ,
use NO weight , just the a willow type jig , even when i have a 8"+ sucker on , all i do is have a bigger treble hook on the willow jig to hold/hook the bait, not land the fish. i love the prism decals , solid green (pic) has been a great big pike producer. 1 winter it caught a #14 & a #17 pike , both after sunset and 8"+ suckers with a green willow jig (1/8 oZ) no split shot/weight , let that minnow swim and look natural ;)

We always start with glow jigs ice fishing, I think they make a big difference.

Fishing in moderate to murky water you will outfish a non glow lure by a wide margin

Totally agree, when I fish clear to really clear water I use less to no glow . Depth can also influence my choices
