As I make plans to add to my equipment I am wondering if anyone would like to share best times to purchase new equipment IE camping shows, REI clearance sales, cabelas blowouts, or maybe outlets? I like to use good equipment and am not afraid to pay for it but if there are ways to get more bang for my buck I would really appreciate a heads up. Thanks!!

Sign up for the Sierra email list. Every once in a while they have a "Flash Sale" for 24 hours only for people on this list. I bought a 2 man Sierra Designs tent that originally listed at $385 and I got it for $140.
Sierra used to be called Sierra Trading post.

Look at used gear from outfitters. They sell pretty much everything needed to go to the BW.
REI does 20% off coupons at various times through the year. It may be worth it to join for that and rebates on non-sale items. Note that the coupons don’t apply to electronics and some other limitations. So you can’t save on a gps that way. Also check REI outlet.
When my wife was helping our nephews outfit for a trip with us she did well at Campmor. That might have mostly been clothing as we had all the gear they needed and they had tents and sleeping bags.

Yes, Steep and Cheap is quite the place, if you can watch it. When I was in college and had a laptop in front of me for hours a day I'd keep it open and checked often. Tons of great deals on top notch gear. I'm still using lots of it today.
eBay too, just don't get drawn into the thrill of bidding.
Sierra Trading post for sure
Thrift shops near "upscale" vacation sites - say goodwill in Vail CO... never hurts to swing into a second hand store in a nice neighborhood, especially in an outdoor recreation hub

Their temporary deals are not what they used to be, but they have loads of stuff on their website at big discounts. Whenever I need something, I check them and Sierra to see if they have them. It's gotten to where I ignore everything that's not at least 40% off!

In addition to what’s mentioned above, I also sometimes find great deals by just typing what I want into Google then click on their Shopping link. They will pop up some of the standard discounters, but sometimes find smaller retailers just trying to close out some inventory.
Like REI, Midwest Mountaineering routinely emails out promotions with a 20% off one item coupon. Last year they did a 30% one, which tempted me into my first CCS pack. Have to sign up to get.

That's a bummer. Sad to hear the days of a $600 coat for $70 are gone

Setting up alerts for Amazon items via Camelcamelcamel.com is pretty helpful. Plus, if you get an alert for an item dropping below your desired price it often means it’s on sale at multiple places as well (like a Garmin InReach for example).
Double dip with Rakuten Ebates or Honey browser plug-in. You’ll get anywhere from 1-15% additional back. Places like Backcountry, Sierra, and Columbia pair well with Rakuten at least.
I followed a lot of what Darwin in the Trail was using via his YouTube channel. He has specifically done ones about budget items as well.
