Happy New Year everyone!

Was hoping to get some feedback on how busy EP 33 can be around the last week of May/first week of June. A group of 6 of us are talking about basecamping on Gabbro for 4 days. Was looking for a very easy low key trip to introduce two buddies to the BWCA and canoe camping.

p.s. - how would you rate the fishing on Gabbro, Bald Eagle and Gull?

Thank You for any feedback!

To specifically answer your question. Gabbro is an entry lake and therefore busy and crowded all through the summer months. June being a summer month. Bald Eagle and Gabbro are fished heavily too. While both lakes are good fisheries, the fish you pull out all all less than 2 pounds. Plenty of bass though. Please take as many as permitted.

Gull is not fished as hard but there are also fewer reports of good fishing on gull. 3/4 of that lake has been burned out from the Turtle Lake fire and then the Pagami Creek Fire. Pietro lake to the north of Gull was all burned out but is coming back.

Any lake in the BWCA that is an entry lake will be very busy. There are no secret entry lakes that are not. Sorry. Just sayin. It doesn't mean you will not get a sense of solitude, you will but you will share the place with others.

I strongly urge people not to base camp on busy routes due to it tieing up valuable campsites for the many people passing through trying to find a place for the night. I think part of the 2020 over-use issue last year was the large number of base-campers.
