Hello - If anyone here is thinking of selling a 2 man kevlar canoe, I would be interested. MN 2, Northstar or other, I am not overly picky. I learned of the greatness of the BWCA about 5 years ago. I have rented canoes a couple of times but with getting more people involved with this great asset we have, I am in the market for another. You can message me on here or email me at t_spitz@hotmail.com Thank You!

I just saw Voyageur North posted on their facebook page they've got MNII and Escapes are the 2 person and other used boats for sale again. Call them for more info.

Thanks for the information Cyclones30. Has anyone here purchased their used canoes before from them? They all look like they have been used hard and need patches. Price seems OK though but they look rough.

Thanks.

Piragis still has several of their rental canoes listed for sale on their web site. They are a bit more expensive than some other outfitters, but they have only been used for one year. I bought a Spirit II from them a few years ago and it has been a good boat for me.

I didn't look at any of them specifically. But yeah it's pretty normal for a couple seasons of rental use for a boat to get scraped up but they're fine. Patches aren't bad if it's not real big or long. It takes a lot to really screw up a kevlar boat even though they seem like they're fragile. Post one of the pictures on the gear forum here and ask about repairs. Most seem to sand or smooth and refinish or do some general just refinish to the hull if it's like these.

Which one are you after? Did they specifically say it would need a patch?

My wife and I bought a used kevlar canoe (souris river canoe) from Canoe Country Outfitters and although it had been used, it had maintenence done before we got it, and was very (in my opinion) reasonably priced. We still rent a canoe for our kids since they won't be around forever, but if we had purchased one to begin with instead of renting we would have already paid off the first canoe.

Thanks for the information Wanderer and cyclone. Buying a used outfitter wasn't really on my radar. i will do some more investigation. Narrowing it down, but I think I will be buying a MN II or Northstar 18. The MN IIS that Voyageur North have for sale are maybe fine, they just look like they have hit nearly every rock in the BW.

WHendrix - I looked at Piragis, not much for used canoes available, mostly what will be for sale this coming fall.

The search continues but I have plenty of time as my trip will not be until September.

Thanks everyone.

Have you been in a MNII before? As fast as a tripping tandem comes but limited leg space for the front paddler. Some feel they're a bit tippy but I love it. You'll leave someone in a Boundary Waters or Q17 or something in the dust. (or waves I guess)

I have not been in a MN II. Just reading as much as I can to determine what would be best for my trips. Either the MN II or Northstar seem like great options, would be happy with either. Now just wait for the right one to come up for sale.

Hayward Outfitters in Hayward WI is the factory outlet for Wenonah. They sell blemish canoes for 25% or so off of retail. And I believe these canoes carry the standard Wenonah warranty. There were a couple MN II on the website last time I checked.

And if you are willing to wait you can get on the list at Piragis for one of their used boats. They sell them after one season. I bought a Champlain from them in 2012 and it looked as if it was hardly used...it was in great shape.

Piraguista - I can't respond to your thread but if you see this can you let me know how and where you found your Northstar 18?
