My dad made his own fishing Lures.

He and I were very close. I’ve held onto a lot of his things. I have been going through things because I plan on moving.

Would anybody use these feathers anymore? I would mail them to you for free. I’m not sure if anybody makes the type of Lures he used to you anymore.

You might also post this in the fly fishing forum. There are plenty of people who tie flies that would love these.

Those are guinea fowl feathers and honestly not worth the hassle to send them out... a bag of those feathers is 2-3 bucks....nice gesture on your part though. If your father had those feathers he likely had other fly tying stiff so maybe keep it all for a day in the future when you might want to try your hand at it or gift it to a family member, grandchild etc.

My dad and I made our own fishing lures and constructed spinning rods from parts ordered at Herter's. I am sure that we caught some fish on this equipment, because fishing on Brule in the early days, 1960's was excellent. Recall catching an 18 lb. Northern in Cone Bay, on a homemade yellow Herter's jig tied directly to monofilament line. It is amazing that the fish didn't shred the line, but we could see that the lure was hanging on the outside of the mouth.

The Herter's spoon, similar to a dardevle was very affective for Pike. It was in my tackle box for many years and is still a very good choice to this day. I think Herter's is out of business, maybe, but was the go to catalogue in those days.

Hey there,

Yes I knew they weren’t worth very much. I was just hoping somebody could put them to use instead of throwing them out. I would never use them. I just held onto them because it reminded me of watching my dad.

Anyway, if someone can use them I don’t mind paying for postage.

You may be able to use those as gill plates or building a head in fly tying.
