I have a week off coming up in March. Sort of weighing my options. Without a snowmobile, are there any good ice fishing crappie or bluegill options in the Ely area? I know Farm, White Iron, etc, have established crappie bites, but would an out-of-towner with a lake map and a vexilar have any shot? Or would it take a season of trial-and-error to figure it out?

Sure could. I would expect to work for them. Not a lot of “easy access “ spots. You would have better luck targeting stream trout IMO.

Lundo just find a lake with fairly dark water and deep holes and you can eliminate 99 percent of the unproductive water. Just look at the lake info report to see a snapshot of the crappie population . White iron has a very good population.
