I have a 17-foot AlumaCraft canoe. I want to accommodate a third person, but the middle brace (with portage pads) makes leg room and trim adjustments difficult. Can I remove the middle brace and not substantially weaken the canoe? Thanks for your thoughts.

Just out of curiosity, if you take out the middle thwart, are you then going to want to portage the canoe?

No. It will be just for a river run.

Think about the Spring Creek drop in seat or their combination seat/yoke. We have the latter in a 17’ alumacraft and it works well.

Or just buy a seat and install it where you want it.
