Selling my Pakboat “Pakette” model folding canoe. I bought the boat sight-unseen and after assembling it, realize that it’s just too small for the month-long trip in my future. Between my 230# and equipment, this is not enough boat. Sizing would be perfect for a smaller person day-tripping etc.

I contacted Pakboats, and received this; “I am pretty sure you have one of the first scaled-down models we ever made, nicknamed the "pakette". We simply scaled down the canoes by reducing the size of a lot of parts, but left in too many of the parts, so the resulting boat turned out to be almost as expensive to make as the canoes. So your boat is in a way the "bridge" to the Puffin series and many other kayaks we have made. I did not notice at first, but 3 rods along the floor combined with the length of the hull are a good clue.´

Thought is that it was made in 1996 or 1997.
Overall length is 13’ 9”, 26” wide and 12” deep. The boat is symmetrical.

All parts go together smoothly as expected. The hull itself is flawless, no scratch or drag marks, very flexible and supple, no oily or slippery feel indicating breakdown of the fabric. The inflatable tubes will need some re-gluing along the seams in a few places though. They are made of coated fabric and could possibly be heat sealed or even sewn(?)

For a seat, I was going to use a square “boat cushion” directly on the floor with a Crazy Creek seat/backrest on top. Seat height would be just a couple of inches above the bottom for excellent stability. That would allow quick changes to the boat’s trim as well.

As pictured and described, it weighs 22# on my shipping scale.

Canoe was sent to me in a rolling suitcase, 19” x 29” x 12”. The shock-corded tube bundles are 27 3/4" long.

Price is $475 cash and carry from zip 54121. Will ship for actual additional cost. I’m willing to forward the original high-res for better viewing.

Any chance it can be stretched to a 17'? 13 is a bit short for two people and 7 weeks of gear.

With some tubing, the right fabric and a lot of glue, I guess anything is possible, but it might be a whole lot simpler to find one factory built instead...Where are you headed on a 7 week trip?

I have one ordered. Covid permitting, NWT and Nunavut. We'll see.

Do you happen to know the load capacity?

I don't have any other data from the Mfg, but you can compare their kayak models with similar dimensions for a better idea.

How would you rate the stability when empty?

Since the bottom is what I'll call a "shallow vee", I would think it would be very stable. One of the Pakboat features/characteristics is that rocker is influenced by loading, so without any gear, and with only the paddler in the center, there would be more rocker. Adding weight to the ends would flatten the keel line a bit more. I first assembled it last Tuesday.
