Great story.
At the end it shows a guy sitting on the edge of a lake ice fishing. A coyote is being chased by a wolf
Amazingly they just run right past him. 30 yards tops.
Great footage.

Gotta admit those guys have the coolest job that track wolf movements, and to a guy like me that hates tech it can be awesomely useful. Thanks for posting.

That is incredible! What an amazing animal. Hope she finds a mate.

Very cool, thanks for sharing. I agree with minnmike. Makes me yearn for that type of career....maybe someday

Maybe she is searching for a former mate. Her wanderings make me think of pets that get lost or left behind that travel far but are on a mission to find their humans.

I had a college class on animal behavior from a noted expert on wolves. This guy spent every summer in the Wyoming mountains tracking and observing wolves. (Classic bearded flannel shirted biologist). I always remember his comment that you can observe animals for hours and the only conclusion you can reach is that you have no idea why they are doing what they do.
Anyone with a pet can attest to that.

This is extremely interesting research to see.
W003F went to all the same spots I would if I didn't have a job and could just wander NE Minnesota and Ontario.

Right! Maybe she was just happy to be free off her island, and run as much as she wanted.

I did particularly like that it seemed she was running the Superior Hiking Trail for part of her adventure. A+.

I see on modis a huge ice bridge on the NW side of the island. I remember in the 90s they were saying we might never see an ice bridge from Isle Royale again. Now it seems to be happening more than ever, several times in a decade.

I wonder if more of the wolves will leave??

I really enjoyed the article, thanks for posting. I had assumed that "lone wolves" were always male. Not so, apparently.
