We would like winter snowshoe into Blue snow lake and check out the fish.

I can shed a little light on Blue Snow Lake. What I've been told is that in the 1950's or thereabouts some guys dumped some lake trout in there. Apparently there was plenty of forage for them because 20 or 30 years later a few big trout were caught in the lake. This is where the stories came from about big trout in Blue Snow that some of you may have heard. Based on the angling efforts of myself and a few others I think its safe to say that very little, if any, reproduction took place.

I camped and fished up there for a week once. It is a beautiful lake. I fished maybe 2-3 hours a day for maybe 5 days and did not get a bite. Tried white tubes, jigs, airplanes, Swedish pimples, little cleos, and salted herring. Nothing. I noticed someone else had been there a week or so before and I could see where they had drilled holes. They drilled a lot, which made me thing they kept looking. It is a really beautiful lake, so if you want that and a great challenge of getting there, by all means go. If you want lake trout for dinner, I suggest Tuscarora.

It is a very beautiful lake and would make a excellent lake for Mn DNR Fisheries to stock brook trout in every other year.

In the 1990's I probably fished 95% of the lakes in that area in the winter. beautiful country and awesome memories. Usually seen no one, except one University would bring a bunch of students each year for winter camping and skiing in the back country.

It seems like it might make a great brook trout lake. It must be spring fed as it is elevated and has water flowing out both on the north and south end. I’d love to visit it in summer sometime.

With canoe, that would be a very good workout.

I read a book yesterday written by a friend of mine and he has a story about Blue Snow Lake in the book. "Lake Trout Odyssey" by Francis Walsh. It's a really good read. I enjoyed it because I've had many similar crazy canoe country fishing adventures. Plus he used a picture in the book of a big lake trout that I had sent him a few years ago.
