Lovely report! Sounds like it was a great trip, and you did very well for campsites. Getting going as early as possible certainly has its merits.

Thanks for sharing your adventure, you had a little bit of everything thrown your way with heat, wind, and rain. Last summer was so busy everywhere, and you're right about the early starts being the key to getting sites that you preferred.

I hope to get my version of your Mountain Goat to come back to the BW for my trip this summer, but only time will tell. Those younger fresh legs/backs sure make the portaging easier!

Looks like Mountain Goat is wearing a vintage PFD. I don't think they make them like that any more.

I'm still reading, but these are my initial impressions:

Bear is mighty.

Goat is sleepy.

Hobbit is fine writer.

However, I'm still puzzled by the genetics of a bear and a Hobbit mating and the Hobbit giving birth to a mountain goat. Who knew?

I had never seen them before and researched them when we returned. They were amazing to see. One of the U of MN campuses (Crookston, I think) has done some genetic studies of freshwater sponges around the state, so I sent them info on the location if they continue their studies.

That is definitely a vintage PFD. It was my original whitewater PFD. He replaced it after that trip, but had a hard time finding one he liked as well. Finally found one that met his requirements at Joe's Sporting Goods. I have another trip report in the works and he is wearing the new one in those pictures.

I really enjoy your trip reports. When you got to the Frost River I was thinking back to your trip through the PMA. I do not think I am ready for that much adventure, but this trip looks doable. As you were getting closer to the the Louse river, i was thinking of the horror stories I have heard about the portages between Dent and Boze lakes. I have never been to the parts of the BWCA you went through, but it looks like fun and I may need to add this at some point to my growing list of places to visit. Especially the Frost River portion, I see a lot of reports of people traveling this. Thanks for taking the time to put this report together.

Glad you enjoyed it. I am going to tackle the Louse this year on my solo. Going to do a lot of ankle conditioning exercises before I tackle those rocky portages. When you do the Frost, just have a good mental attitude to handle loads of beaver dam pullovers. Beautiful though.
