Yes. Changing your line on a schedule is a good idea. How do you mark your rod, reel or line to know the date you re-spooled?

The little adhesive tab that holds the tag end of line on the spool out of the box is a good size to use as label on your reel. I am able to write the date on the sticker and put it on the reel. But I need a few more when spooling multiple reels.

Ideas?

Twice a year, and don't worry about it........I change in the Spring before I start at KY Lake and then in the Fall around October or so for Dale Hollow and Winter.

Some rods and reels that don't get heavy usage, I may change only 1 time a year. I use mostly flourocarbon and buy in 1000 yd filler spools.

Any of my braid rods usually go 2-3 years without replacement, sometimes longer.

I do usually label line weight though, and I do that with a labeler and put it under the reel where it matches to the seat. Works GREAT, and you can get a cheep dynmo labeler with waterproof/plastic labels for about 20 bucks.

I have a list of my reels in the “Notes” section of my iPad. I treat it like a Word document and record date, brand of line and pound rating for each reel. I also record any reel maintenance like bearing replacement. If I sell a reel or throw it in the trash, I just delete it off the list. A side benefit of the reel list is it makes me realize I might have too many reels.

I don’t worry about a date, I just change it before the season starts.

I think I'll look for a dymo labeler. That would work best for a record of line weight and date. If I only had 2 rods, changing line before each season or 2x per year would be a good option... not so good with 30+ rods. Maintaining a Word document is fine but would be hard to manage which Shimano 2000 reel is which.

I don't record the date "officially"

It's in my head somewhere.....or I just go by feel. No real issue with that strategy to date

Same as PowerLizard - I have a notes app built into my Pixel 5 and make a category for what each of my rods are set up for like "Tournament" or "Walleye" and then I put the name of the rod and the reel. Next to that I put the kind of line, pound of line, and then date I last put it on.

Otherwise I start losing track after awhile.

I write the date and #lb test on a small piece of tape and stick it on the underside of the tab that holds the reel onto the rod. If I want to know at a later date I just unscrew the reel and look.

I go 100% on feel. The number of days/years matters a lot less than how much that reel got used. I run mostly braid and can go 2-3 seasons before changing. Usually when I change, it's not because the the line has gone "bad," but the spool is getting too low for my preferences.

I'm with you on this method. Once a year unless obviously needed later in the year. Still redo everything in the spring regardless if I did a late change or not. I think its mostly about getting the "memory" out of the line on the reel. They sit a long time in winter.
