So, I am interviewing a few different places, moving in Autumn of 2021.

A factor in my decision is my ability to find groups to do winter things with (camp, snowshoe, ice fish, ski, etc.)

I definitely don't want to sit at home. :) I also want to learn about cool areas and learn from other people before I go it alone. I'd prefer to winter camp with people or at least "solo together" at least while I learn winter camping. It doesn't appeal to me to freeze to death via my own stupidity (plus you'd all talk smack about me).

That said, I know when you move it takes time to get to know people. Are there organized "clubs" or organized trips, anything? Basically, how hard is it to find people to do winter things when you first move up near the BWCA? It's always easier to find winter activity partners or whatnot if there is some "group" I can join. I was just curious if anyone that lives in the area could comment.

Check out the the Winter Camping Symposium held in October at YMCA Camp Miller in Sturgeon Lake MN. It’s a great place to learn skills and meet people. Kind of like a big club that only meets once a year.

My first winter camping trip was with the Minnesota Rovers in 1995. I haven't been involved with the group for years, and their group trips are suspended right now due to Covid, but it's a great group. They've been around since 1954, trip costs are kept low, and they have an extensive gear cage for use on group trips.
