Did the little loop of lakes SW of Crab last September. Crab to Saca-133r. Steep rocky start out of Crab then flattens out. Rocky again on Saca end. Maybe the toughest one of the loop but its not that bad. Looked at the Saca site from the water. It sits on a small rocky point and looks like nothing special. Saca to Hassel-91r. A little rocky at both ends....more on the Hassel end, but its mostly flat and not that bad. We did not check the Hassel site as it was behind us. Hassel to Battle 150r. One of the longer ones, but not that bad. Flat, wide, good path but has a lot of curves. Site on Battle is nice for small group. It faces more south than west and is kind of a cubby hole without a lot of air movement unless south wind. We opted to move on cuz day was very warm with west breeze. Battle to Phantom-16r. Had to search a little for this one. Map shows it in tip of bay sort of.....its back west 50-60 yards and has a big flat rock at shore that you land on but it blocks the wear and tear that you look for at most landings. You can see the rock on Google maps on the stubby little point. Once on it, short, flat, easy walk with little drop to sand point on Phantom. We stayed at the site on Phantom. Sandy point with a small opening in the Sweet Gale to land canoes. Very decent site for tents, kitchen, maybe swimming etc but the September sun kind of beat down on us as it faces west without shoreline trees. There is room to move back in for some shade. Not a lot to explore outside camp. The whole backside of site drops into spruce swamp that surrounds camp. I regret that I did not go down to Boulder to check the portage and island campsite. Phantom to Sprite-24r. Flat, good path. Sprite has the blackest water i have ever seen. Sprite to Meat-73r. Good path and mostly flat. Kinda curvy as it follows a ridge along the side hill....ridge top left...valley to right. Pretty portage. Water was low and just a trickle through the narrows on Meat. Actually had to "portage" through the channel. While out of boat, I walked down the shore but could not find the site and it was not obvious from water when we had paddled by. Meat to Clark-56r. Gorgeous portage in the Fall colors. Huge landing on Meat. Flat, wide with long, gradual downhill to Clark. A little messy on Clark end as a drainage creek weaves through the landing. Some rocks and mud. May get messier in higher water. Looked at Clark site from water......looked just ok. Clark to Crab-133r. Big, wide opening but no good place to "land" canoe. Short, open, very steep hill climb to get up on top. The kind of steep where your stuff rolls downhill. Once on top its very open nice path with some burn damage.....I believe Foss fire in 2016. Then you hit some Pine woods that had ground fire. Nice canopy and open underneath. Good path follows ridge top with gradual drop closer to Crab as the woods get thicker. Quicker, steeper drop real close to Crab with some more rocks. Quiet little loop of small lakes....never saw another person the whole loop. Really wish I would have checked Boulder and we also did not poke into dead end Glimmer, which also has a site.

We meant to poke around in here a few years back but, Vickie turned her ankle the day before and we chose to stay close to camp (Lunetta) that day. I've heard there's decent pan fishing on a couple of the lakes, did you do any fishing? I realize it was September but, were there many others around? This area is on my bucket list. :)

Caught some perch in Phantom....all little. Wished I would have stayed on Battle....looked like nice fishy drop off in front of camp and later learned from CCO that there are walleyes in there. We did not see another person from the time we left Crab until we returned to Crab. Campsites had been used over the summer a bit but not heavily it appeared.
