I use two packs when on solo trips one GG quetico and a regular backpack and double portage. the regular backpack has seen its last trip and I’m in search of a new one. I have a BV 450 which usually goes in the second pack and it never fit very well. I was wondering with this set up what you guys and gals use what does the BV 450 fit best in. Since it’s my second pack I would like it to be less than 30 liters. Thanks for reading

Consider a CCS Bushcrafter or Rucksack. The water bottle pockets on the Bushcrafter are handy but make the pack more fussy to load and unload in the bow of a narrow solo. Top quality, durable, comfortable and look good.

Second on the rucksack. I have the bushcrafter and find the hatchet system not that convenient and the side pockets interfere with loading in the narrow front of my canoe. A well made pack that has seen a lot of use and shows no obvious wear, well worth the money. Mine is my kitchen pack.

CCS Rucksack seems perfect for the job. Used one as my 2nd pack last summer and it is very versatile.

Would you be interested in something fairly unusual for carrying canister(s)?

Granite Gear Nimbus Core designed to carry a canister or 2. Internal frame and very comfortable. I bought it intending to use a canister, switched to Ursack.

I use the BVs for group trips but on my solos I switch to the Ursack for my food. I find it packs much more easily when my space and weight is at a premium.

Looks like the Osprey Talon 22 or the next size larger would do you good. Osprey has a ridiculously great life time warranty if need.

Thank you for the suggestions. How does the rucksack carry if I were to do a 2-3 night hike? it would also be used for that. I have some old packs and they are nearing the end so I’m culling the herd.

I've liked my Exped Torrent as a 2nd pack, but I also use an Ursack these days. Food is usually in the main pack though.
