Lakes are all still frozen up here and in fact so are some of the rivers. I was fortunate enough to get out yesterday on a river I know that holds a little more current and was mostly clear...at least clear enough to paddle. I did about 2.5-3 miles upstream and then back down in my newly purchased Magic.
I love it! The boat is a dream to paddle. It holds line well and is super efficient. I had no problem navigating the turns and current.

Speckled,
Can you send me an email, if you can access mine ?
Being an old fart, I'm struggling with trying to get to yours via BWCA.com.
Would just like to talk.
If I need to, I'll post my email right on this thread.
Nice canoe & pictures, BTW.
Thanks
Stumpy

With my small daypack and myself...total weight in the boat was probably around 230lbs.

Congrats on your new Magic Speckled. Beautiful pics! I got my 1996 Magic last summer. I've been enjoying it, I'm impressed with the stability and I'm surprised at how nicely it handles for a boat made mostly for going fast and straight. I agree that it can carry a load and I'll also mention that in high wind or high current my load has to lay down to help with stability. :)

Me, my pack (for a week), paddles, dog and dog's pack = ~255 lb in our Magic. Very solid with weight in her.

Speckled, welcome to a group of happy customers. I got mine with the ash gunnels in 2013 and still get that thrill. Over time I have reduced ballast, she was just too finicky at first. Now it is just me and a small North Face duffel that sits just in front and under the seat. She still startles and drifts to wind gusts, but using a double blade paddle has resulted in quick recovery, hardly losing track. Loaded for tripping she is solid stable and still flies. She is a great companion and I am happy, but not surprised, you enjoyed your first date.

I found it incredibly stable with just myself and the small daypack...total weight was likely around 230. Fully loaded for a trip, I'll probably be 250-260? Unless my 2021 effort to lose weight somehow becomes effective.

I typically paddle mine with just me at approx 190 lbs. Works fine for me. Bought mine used. Came with kneeling seat drops, about 1.5 in. max and straight bench seat. Replaced those with the standard drops, about 4 in. and a contoured seat which dropped the seat about another inch. Much improved.
