Better look more closely plenty of top water and spinner baits, plus two slots of chatter baits. The mepps and spoons will be stocked better once they go in from my trout box. Top water -poppers, buzzbait, ploppers, walk the dog bait, and frogs.
The crawdad weight is a keel weight to get trolling lures deeper, never tried before.

You got me, I forgot there was a second picture before I responded :) edited my post accordingly. You've got it all covered! Except maybe swimbait heads?

daveowens286: "Anyone ever have any luck with smithwick p10s or similar baits? We troll these with great success for walleyes "
The Smithwicks Perfect 10 are $$$. They have some major flash.
As far as your tackle box, I always like to have a few spoons and jig/jig spinners with assorted Twister Tails. A 5" Twister Tail on a 1/4-1/2oz jig spinner can be a great combination whether casting from shore or in a canoe.
keep your line wet, good things will happen

They are comparable to most rapalas, not too extreme for me. You obviously know them and have used them....any luck trolling them in canoe country?

That is a lot of lures. I don't see any spoons though. You might want to consider adding a couple different spoons. I'd probably cut down on some of the duplicates in a different color though. I like to have my tackle box a little less crowded so it is easier to swap lures in the canoe and not poke myself. I like to sharpen my hooks for lake trout though, so a little poke tends to break the skin.

Haha I know it's a lot but I'd say that is doubtful. When I go into the boundary waters fishing is priority number one for me. Easily spend 10+ hours fishing from a basecamp. My partners aren't very experienced when it comes to fishing in other ways than bobbers or jigs so I bring enough of my lures for them to use.

You may be an exception but my 68 years on this planet says that the better fisherman you are the less lures you take with you.

Since when is trying/learning new things a bad thing?

It's not, but eventually most people figure out that less is more. If you want to try something out, then try it out. I just wouldn't recommend bringing 3 of the same lure when you are trying it out. Personally I only bring 1 duplicate as a backup. Even if you are providing for everyone, I would only bring 1 duplicate and put a different lure on every rod. The only time I think everyone on the same setup is a good idea is when you are right on top of the fish and jigging or bobber fishing. Otherwise variety is better.

The first year we went in my son went the whole week minus the final day on a #5 Perch colored Shad Rap. We didn’t know any better, didn’t think to take live bait and ended up catching all the walleye we could eat plus some. Had a blast.

The issue here is about fishing ability...and each of us have our individual strengths and weaknesses. My father was a great catcher of fish and he taught me and my three brothers how to catch fish under a wide variety of scenarios. Yesterday I limited out (trout) in half an hour fishing the same waters/holes as others-who caught nothing while I was there. I was simply executing what I learned over 60 years ago, as a child, fishing the small streams of Northern Indiana. Those near me saw what I was doing in a general sense but they could not duplicate the art of the matter.
In general, fish will bite anything if you give them the opportunity. Sure, the bait/lure makes a difference but if you don't know how to make the correct choices and present them in the correct manner-good luck. One needs to know WHAT and HOW to offer fish the opportunity. Otherwise, catching fish has very little to do with the lures and, here, successful fishing has little to do with luck.

I've actually done a trip where I had the same bait on the whole time."
Do tell me what that lure was. "
A TDD 11 with a 2oz snap weight. It was late Sept. and all the LT and eyes were in 45'-65' depth that year. I think I had on a firetiger and my wife had a purpledescent.

Here is my box from a couple years ago. Gets refined a bit after each trip based on time of year, etc. It's 3 small boxes that go into a small carry bag. I have each box labeled on the end with species/general contents so I can grab the right box pretty quickly. WAY easier than the giant multi-drawer Plano box I took when I first started taking trips up there.

Why do so many of you say he needs more spoons? What are you targeting, Pike, Lake Trout? I find spoons put a ton of twist in my mono, unless I put an extra swivel in there someplace. What situations are you fishing with spoons? Are you jigging for lake trout? Is that more effective than trolling say a deep tail dancer type rig?
