Okay, posted in January I think as I have never worked Knife before and did receive some great replies which I am super thankful for. I am taking my 10yr old son in for his 2nd BWCA trip. We will spend 3 days on Knife and then move on. Have studied aerials and contour maps. Just wondering if anyone knows of and is willing to share any known outcrops, bumps or humps that we can check out for twilight walleye fishing. Super excited and can't wait to get up there. Hoping to make it a super memorable trip for my son, as opposed to the guaranteed very memorable trip just by being there.

Thanks all for any suggestions.

2nd trip with a 10 year old ? i see he's been in canoe before , plan on working hard, JS
as far as fishing , may 16th search out any moving water even little feeder creeks , smaller bays/cuts in the shoreline, everything should be shallow. nighttime a lighted bobber from camp or deadbait on bottom(during the day too)
brings spoons , good for casting from camp,

In May 2017 I fished all shorelines around Dorthy’s Island. Mostly skunked, but then we had a prevailing breeze from the north and hammered smallies on the northern shore of the north most island, not far from the campsite. At this point, your knife lake fishing will be much more impacted by what the eventual lake temp will be versus other people’s hotspots. Depending on weather between now and then, you could see anywhere from high 50s to low 70s. I have a few hot spots on Southarm as well, but its a big lake. have fun.

Once you hit deeper water after the portage into the lake (assume you're coming from Moose?) try trolling a deep tail dancer. Had some good luck with lakers on the way to Dorothy's island. Nothing huge, but several keeper size that we released back to the deep.

Troll Tail Dancers for suspended lakers.

Bass will be near shore, fallen trees. We use wacky worms.

We never do well for walleye on Knife for some reason.

Big northerns near any emerging vegetation.

That's my son on Knife a few years back.

Not ever having been on Knife I am amazed at the number of campsites, it obviously must get a ton of traffic on it. Not pleased about that as I like more secluded, harder to reach lakes. No worries we will leave some fish for your guys to catch!!!!

Also keep your campsite clean. There are bears around where there are so many people and food.

Thanks, wondered if they “remember” after the winter or if they have to re-learn each season.
