After a ton of research on this site and others I decided to take the plunge and give hammocks a try. As many others have said, “I can’t ever see myself going back to the ground”! I bought a Ridgerunner and BBXLC with full length 20 degree underquilts and Thunderfly tarps. I’ve been practicing my hanging skills in the garage for a few months but it finally warmed up enough for our first hang outdoors. Last night my wife and I took the dog out to the backyard and hung out for a few hours. My only concern is that it was so perfect I might have set the bar a little high for future hangs, it’s ok I’m up to the challenge.
We live just outside Denali Nat Park so forgive the non BWCA photos, I hope you enjoy them anyway. Looking forward to our visit to the BWCA this summer.

Warbonnet has nice hammock gear, you will enjoy the comfort of these hammocks. I have the RR , Superfly and Thunderfly tarps, Diamond Back under and top quilts. Be careful with the RR spreader poles coming in contact with tarp, I would suggest looking into Fugal innovations bridge buttons. Hammock Forms has a lot of good info also.

Congratulations Tundra. Could not help but notice the adult beverage cooling in the snow. I took your advice and I am still hanging in the barn when my wife gives me leave of absence from the honey-do tasks. I am going to a Midwest Hang in the Deam Wilderness this coming Friday to see how the experts do it.

You have a keen eye! Glad you are still hanging in the barn. My weekend garage trials sure helped me get more comfortable.
My wife has been a little skeptical but yesterday after just a few minutes in the XLC she exclaimed laying in the hammock “felt like heaven”, a few minutes after that and she fell asleep. She still can’t see why I had to buy a book and watch Shug videos for three months but that’s ok.
Have fun at the hang!

My wife and I (originally from the midwest) are also making the trek down to the park this summer from Alaska! Have a great trip!
