That's a 1960's vintage Alumacraft. I have one that looks exactly like it. It's currently at my son's house in WI or I could take some comparison pics. The give away is the seat construction, also the serial number format, the bow tie down piece and the formed thwarts.

I'd try a paint stripper, probably a citrus based product. Methylene chloride works on most any paint but I don't know how it would react with the aluminum. In any event try a small test patch first.

It looks like one I saw in my neighborhood a couple of years ago. The guys loading it on a car to go north said they found it buried in a swamp.

It's a functional boat in many instances. Mine stayed at my parents place for many years. Used frequently. Still in use.

I was thinking the same thing, that boat looks to be in perfect shape other than the flaking paint job. The pressure wash idea makes sense, I like the sound of citrus-based stripper, or you might try a $20 heat gun to see if that takes the paint off easily...using a stiff plastic putty knife so you don't scratch the aluminum with a steel tool.

I have an Osagian I bought 30 years ago, still looks as nice as the day I bought it. I have taken it to the BW over 20 times, just do not look at the scratches on the bottom. Last years trip we had the Osagian, an Alumunicraft and a Gruman. The differance between the Gruman and other aluminum canoes is how close the rivits are. Gruman has closer spaced rivits, they do make aircraft.
