I’ve done several trips to Crooked and Iron. This year I’m considering LLC and avoiding the portages. Fishing is our priority. Is there much of a drop off in fishing if we choose LLC? I’ve had really good luck in Iron. Any input on the fishing or bay suggestions on LLC would be greatly appreciated.
We’re going the 2nd week in June and are considering LLC or Iron. Thanks

Drop off? No way! I’d consider LLC as good of a fishery or possibly even better. I’ve had luck on all three of those lakes, but LLC is the one that has never let me down. Plus, you can fish for the Grand Slam on LLC, no Lakers in Crooked or Iron. I would strongly recommend Lady Boot Bay and Fish Stake Narrows. Great fishing structure, fantastic campsites and lots of water to explore.

Yeah - gonna get a tow. We’ve been to crooked or iron 15 times. A back issue has me thinking a portage should be avoided.
But it kills me to compromise the fishing and still considering just the Bottle portage.
Bass and pike are priority but want to get some walleye too.
I’d need help from this community to target trout.
Appreciate the input and keep it coming please.

Not sure you can get a tow all the way to bottle portage if the border is closed. I think they can only go as far as snow bay. Hopefully the border opens up in mid may, but I really doubt it.

But just paddling to get from there to Bottle.

Wow - you’re right. Tows not going to Bottle, Lady Boot, etc. probably not gonna pay 275 for that tow. Bummer.
Back to the drawing board.
Any ideas on the best fishing with minimum portages? (Will take whatever tow is necessary)

I might just do that. But I was quoted 275 for the tow. Seems pricey - especially when being dropped off on the west side.
Plus, I’m concerned that it will be a bit congested there since that’s where they’re dropping everyone.
Just not sure.
Would love to find a tow into basswood.

I doubt it's a very high demand tow. And it's that much because it's a long ride in a fast boat and involves multiple portages of the large fast boat. It's a hell of a ride if you can afford it

I’ll consider it. I’ve done the tow many times headed to Bottle. It’s a blast for sure.
I just remember it being cheaper. And now it’s wayy short of bottle.
I’m thinking of portaging into Pipestone and making our way to basswood.

You can get a tow into Basswood lake from Moose. Lots of options with different drop off points. Easier tow since they just put the boats on a flat bottom trailer. Not free though and more expensive the farther in you have the tow take you.
You can also get a wheel the boat over the portage option from Fall Lake entry into Basswood. Only one outfitter is doing that tow though but you can get way up into Basswood with a short paddle to Upper Basswood falls. I’m scheduled for this tow this year and routing up into Crooked and then back out same way.
