The son of a very close friend and five of his buddies completed a sixty day Covid fund-raising canoe trip from Wabakimi to Ottawa and have made a video documentary available on Youtube.

The trip occurred last summer. The boys were eighteen at the time and all experienced campers.

I had a slow day at work so in between tasks I was able to take in both episodes they have so far posted to youtube (covers day 1-20 or so if I remember correctly). The level of knowledge they possess at 18 years old is amazing, as is their resourcefulness and drive. They certainly have their own way of doing things and a unique tripping style, and it obviously worked for them even if many of us would question why they do things the way they do. I'll be looking forward to the rest of their story for sure.

Like their choice of shoes? They like the runners because they're light-weight and dry quickly. The shoes are pretty expensive and were supplied by Arc'teryx for free. No 18-year-old kid is going to turn down free expensive shoes. They were pretty beat up after sixty days though.

No, nothing to do with shoes...not sure why you came to that conclusion.
I support them and don’t feel the need to dissect it here.

Only because they were asked about it a lot.

That and the wannigans. According Nolan's dad, they used them at summer camp growing up and just wanted to continue the tradition. In the olden days when I was kid at summer camp, getting delegated to portage the wannigan was a form of punishment :)

I'd never even heard that word till I watched the first episode last night. Doesn't look like fun carrying that thing.

Glad they made the Nipigon crossing fairly well. See how the Superior section goes...
