One of my favorite canoe trippers. He's from New Foundland and has an accent that sounds like a Boston/Irish mix. He takes his water dog Saku on crazy long wilderness canoe trips. Here's his latest one that just dropped episode 1. Enjoy!

Watched it yesterday. High quality video. This guy is far and away the best canoe camping YouTuber out there. No surprise he got a television series in Canada.
Just a guy and his dog. My YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRuOcIgt_VJIRfkZES0GJLQ

Yep. Got this in my feed the other day and watched it today. Good stuff as always. Looking forward to this series.

EP 2 is up now. I won't post anymore but if you like the series then just subscribe to get notifications at his site. If this series is anything like his other 2 previous long trips it will be well worth the time to watch.

TomT: "He’s also playing the penny whistle in the theme song. He and Saku seem to be made for each other. That dog sure got lucky. "
I feel the same way about Saku and his great fortune. This progeny of selective breeding gets to live the wolf's life.

I became aware of that lottery of a dog’s life maybe 15 years ago. I have a service business and this one upper middle class customer kept her golden retriever on the back raised deck. There was a doghouse and a few toys scattered with a huge quantity of her poop. I went on the deck to work and this dog dog was petrified and shaking. I slowly walked to her with my arm out and talking gently but she quickly cowered in her house. I noticed her fur was full of mats. It broke my heart. I actually became depressed for days afterward about this. But yeah, it’s a lottery for pets. Love your pets.

That is heartbreaking. Too many people acquire dogs as fashion accessories or a passing fancy. I ended a friendship with a couple over their treatment of their dog and I don't regret it.

Newfoundland is awesome. I was struck by some of the similarities to the BWCA/Q - and the lack of many real canoe routes other than rivers or single large lakes. If you look at the map, the potential is there to have something the size of the BWCA or Quetico or both.

I wonder what the dog’s story was? Why was a golden retriever - the friendliest dog ever, so afraid of me? It never barked just shook uncontrollably and cowered. All the deck poop was probably a winters worth. It was everywhere and disgusting. These were wealthy people. I should have offered to take the dog. That’s exactly what I would do if that happened today.
