If anyone has a pair of rain pants they really like, I'm looking for some ideas. Thanks in advance!

I've been very pleased with my Marmot Minimalist Gore-Tex pants.

I've been happy with Paclite Goretex for jacket/pants over the years. Lightweight, packable, durable and dry. I've had combos from Cabelas and REI, the latter designs have had a better fit.

I've had the Marmot Precip jacket and pants in the past and they were just fine. I opted for the Cabelas Rainy River packable Goretex when the Precip finally needed to be replaced. I like both.

Thanks for the ideas. Sounds like goretex is the common theme. I should mention that weight and packability aren’t crucial to me as I do a lot of day-tripping.

Military surplus Goretex. Not light weight but tough as nails. Also can be a lot cheaper.

This. I just wish the German surplus pants I bought wore out faster so I could go shopping more often. And the surplus USAF shell parka and liner that I paid $35 for several years ago is a similar PITA in that regard.

I agree that the military surplus Goretex rain pants are tough as nails, and I appreciated them when I was in the army but after my first couple of BWCA trips I ditched them for the lighter Marmot pants because they were just too bulky and heavy.

I'm also really happy with the Cabela's "Rainy River Paclite Goretex" products..
Bonus is they come in tall sizes...

Marmot Precip. But to be honest I rarely use pants unless its an all day rain. Jacket is much more important.

Top end recommendation here. Definitely not for the faint of spending.

https://www.simmsfishing.com/shop/mens/jackets/prodry-bib-1

I have the Simms Prodry Bib and Jacket and lemme tell you, I'm not exaggerating when I say I could (and have) stood in the shower with them on, and not felt a drop of water. The Bibs are the end-all to fishing/rain pants. The butt and knee sections are reinforced nylon, and the goretex doesn't feel like a typical rain material, it feels tougher like you should be wearing them on a crabbing boat working your ass off 16 hours a day, they're so tough. I've got a half a dozen trips on my set so far, granted half of those trips we were gifted with great weather...but when the weather is shitty I actually enjoy it now versus hating it so much prior to having the Prodry set.

I had the Marmot Precip for a long time, and while it does the job of keeping you mostly dry for a short period of time in light rain, if the rain starts pelting you, or you're paddling all day in it, you'll undoubtedly get wet in the forearm area, the zipper area, around your neck, and definitely your waist, not to mention the damn thing doesn't breath at all. When it comes to a 60 dollar piece of rain gear, it gets the job done. However, I found that with that limited of rain gear, when it rained I spent most of my time trying to get out of the rain, and when a buddy suggested fishing in a canoe I'd surely shrug it off chalking it up to trying to stay dry and warm.

Now....I chuckle when it rains, I can wear whatever I want underneath them and they breath like a pair of jeans. I've never once felt sticky or damp inside them. Anyways, I got a sweet deal on Cabelas one year where I could buy the set ($1000) and pay it back over 4 payments zero interest over the next 4 months so I jumped on that and locked in the last set of rain gear I think I might ever buy. Simms stuff is just bulletproof. All the other names like Patagonia, Marmot, Arc'teryx they're made for the backpacker who needs a lot of weight consideration in mind. Simms makes "Fishing Stuff", little more weight and bulk, but you get a product that's built to take the same abuse the fisherman takes.

Buy Once, Cry Once.

I really like my Rab Kinetic Alpine rain gear.
I have a pair of the army issued goretex I’d sale if that’s the route you decide to go.

I wet foot and carry a spare pair of quick dry zip off pants, and absolutely no regrets. I have considered a dynema rain kilt - a two ounces in a tiny pouch - which would protect above the ankles if I cared. Zpacks dynema rain kilt

My buy once, cry once love affair with rain pants is Helly Hansen Vanir Luster for women. Dry in driving rain and wet portages (which is 90% of the time), breathable, warm if using a base layer, and incredibly comfortable, like a regular pair of pants.

Get a pair of bibs.... any bibs... will never go back to pants and rain down my crack.... The ProDry's are great... but their latest iteration have priced them near the moon... I have an older paid of Simms and they are my number 3 piece of BWCA equipment right after my CCS tarp and canoe....
