Heading up Wednesday to little gab entry 33. Any great pointers to catching walleye and crappies this time of year. Anyone been up there yet? Taking my wife up for her first real trip and she is excited to catch n eat walleye.

Put minnow on hook-jig or plain with split shot near hook. Bounce off bottom around points-in about 15 feet of water. Set hook.

Take some leeches in a container you store in camp out in the water, use a rock inside to sink it. Use a mesh leech bag for your daily fishing bait needs out on the water. Use a hook with the leech, about a foot up put a small slip shot weight. The size of the weight needed is what floats a slip bobbers correctly. Then you will use a balsa slip bobbers with a bobber stop. Adjust the bobber stop until the leech is one foot off the bottom. Fish on.

You'll want to spend time just above and below the small rapids near campsite 1708. I did well there last year around this time with jigs and leeches.

The above tips are spot on. Don’t be afraid to try them in 6-7 feet of water this time of year. Especially in the evening.

Good luck!

I catch bigger walleye using plastics. Never believed that to be true until I tried it. Natural colors in clear water and chartreuse or purple or a combination in murky. Give it a shot. Also walleye flies kill em.

I like to troll a green reef runner to locate them, then drop a slip bobber and leech.
