Heading to SAK on Saturday. Going to target Lakers. Not sure if I would need snap weights to get to them. But in case my Deep Taildancers can’t reach them I would like to have snap weights as a back up. Is there anywhere in Ely that would have them? My local stores are picked over and or don’t carry them.

When I was up the opening week I only caught trout in deep water. 100 to 90 feet. I was using a large tadpole diving weight that got my lure down past 30 feet. I never had a fish on sonar they would come off the bottom and hit hard. I caught a trout every morning I fished for them.

Yes, and good luck finding them. I lost my last one on Kek last year. This week I pulled a couple of red offshore releases off of my planer boards to make a couple more. I had the weights, just couldn't find the snaps.

If you are going through Duluth. Marine General is your best bet. Fleet farm is another option in that area.

Thanks for the info guys. I have a Fleet Farm in my town. They are just so understocked! I did see some offshore planer clips. So maybe I will stop and buy them. Was also looking at dipsy divers. I have never used them, and snap weights seemed simpler. What size weights do you guys usually take. I just don't want to overkill and carry more weight than I have too.

I mainly use the 2 and 3 ounce weights. Figure you can let less line out that way. One thing you will learn quick is if you stop moving (hopefully because the canoe mate has a fish on) - you best be quick to reel in because they drop quick when you stop moving.

@SurlyDude, any relation to the brewery or just coincidence?

Just my favorite beer when I made the username. :) Still safely in my top 5, but it's got more competition in the last however many years it's been.

Gotcha, just curious. I worked there for 6ish years or so. Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. Agreed on the competition getting tougher.
