Just had a group come back from #16 area. (Moose River North)

This morning they were around the fire pit area and a bear came in to “visit”, within 30 yards of them. They yelled and chased it out, but it left taking its own sweet time.

Luckily they were on their way back “home” so I don’t know if it came back or ???

This is the first reporting of this area for us.

Which campsite was it at? I'm curious. Last year I think many of the southern campsites on the lake were visited by a sow and her cubs. Could they be back?

I thought it was more the NE section of the lake?

I've seen more bear action ( bears and bear chewed human food packages) then anywhere I've been in the BWCA.

My canoey friend in Northeaster New Jersey has a wildlife camera in his front yard. Bears are regulars as are deer. He is about 25 miles from Manhattan. Bears are good size..about 250-300.

This little feller came through my backyard this evening. He is very polite and does not tear down my feeders. I still asked him to leave.

We saw two bears at Snipe Lake this last week. First on Tuesday along the shore as we paddled. The second was on the portage between Missing Link and Snipe.

We just came out yesterday from three nights camping on the north end of Lake Agnes (27th - 30th). Heard folks in the campsite next to us hollering and clapping as if scaring something off on the evening of the 29th just after dark.

We also found a bunch of food "buried" there just under the pine needles back in the woods a bit-- about 10 whole onions and a full clove of garlic! Weird!

If you're headed to Agnes, be sure to take this teen with you.

I’ve rewatched this ten times and am still amazed...

That’s why bears become a problem.

Couldn't take it back out after they carried in in? Grrrrr. Even burning the food would have been better.

A good heads up. But I’d say people are visited more than they realize. I regret not having a game cam out there. Never lost anything to a bear. Had several direct encounters with “problem” bear. But it’s sounding like they are finding easier meals the later years here. Even at home they are getting braver. Lots of people raising chickens and stuff. They love goats by the way.
