Paddling through Seagull last Saturday 5/29, I noticed a blue recycling container on an island. I pulled up to the island to grab it and was extremely surprised there was rotting food of all sorts inside(Salami, pickles, yogurt, cheese, sausage). There were no signs of a bear eating/dragging this to where I found it.

Please practice and teach proper food storage for the safety of humans and bears alike.

Guessing someone used that to carry food in and then decided it was easier to leave? I took a ton of trash out of lakes around Sawbill last week too.

Surprised they left it in the cooler. Could of just dumped it and moved on.

I paddled by this on May 20th. I was so puzzled by it. The campsite adjacent on the island was occupied and I was thinking perhaps if belonged to them. Very weird.

Seems parties ought to be required to accept garbage bags. There would be a hefty deposit. Bring it back with your garbage and get your deposit money back.

People need to be slammed in the pocketbook.

The stuff looks pretty fresh.
A look at the entry point permits for the prior week or so would get a small suspect list.
I'm even thinking some prints

I like this idea. Education doesn't seem to work these days. How much deposit. $50, $75, $100.

I witnessed something like this a few years back on the Horse River. At the takeout of the 2nd portage, I found granola bar wrappers, juice packets and straws floating in the water. Someone had stashed a styrofoam cooler for storing leeches (?). I hauled as much of it out on my way back but had to leave some of it because I ran out of space in my solo canoe. I just had to hope that someone was coming back for their stuff that they stashed there.

On this one, I'm thinking they had a lunch stop and then forgot the foodbox on leaving....

Just read where a guy tried to hit a golf ball in every state.
He hit one in Yellowstone and now has the park service on his azz.....fine like 8k....
Might be worth looking into.
Wish I could provide a link but that's above my paygrade.

saw that - also saw his Iowa shot - with a state trooper standing right there hitting it towards the capitol. Wonder if it was put on or if he got into any kind of trouble

The problem with this comes back to the major lack of USFS presence to enforce any rules at all. How would they ever identify who to fine? I've never seen anyone of any enforcement authority on any of my trips. If I was one of these irresponsible, reckless people, there is a LOT of damage I'd have done and gotten away with from just my own visits already. They just have no way of actually holding anyone accountable, and they're utterly incapable of catching hardly anyone in the act.
