Heading up to caribou East on the 8th and was wondering if anyone has an idea of what the bite has been like and how the heat wave might impact things. Also wondering if we’ve got a good shot at gettin a campsite or not. Any tips/advice would be appreciated!

Caribou was sloooow memorial weekend, after the cold snap. we bumped into exiting campers, who saw lots of moose. I crossed paths with an older gentleman on Monday, who has been guiding on Caribou most of his life. I called him last night, and asked how monday went, and he said it was slow. I would think this warmup, would also turn on the bite. They have to eat sooner or later. There were a couple campsites available on Saturday when we entered. Get there in the morning 10 ish, and I would think you'd have a good shot at a campsite. There was 2 open campsites on horseshoe, when we entered, but they filled up.

"Little Vince's Guide Service" Vince Ekroot 218-388-9942. If you're camping on Caribou, he said he would come to you.

I would think the smallmouth bite would be picking up in this weather. If you get a chance to head down to Horseshoe, to the west of that lake are smaller lakes, Allen and John that are shallow and must be SMB havens. Last time we were through there, we saw campsites occupied and folks out fishing those waters. They are not frequently traveled to my knowledge and might be options if things are off, fish-wise on Caribou. Just a thought.
