A terrific report of a great dad and great son. I like how Josef is both an outdoor kid and a brainy kid.

This is one of the best reports I've read. It is written with such love and joy describing a wonderful experience with your son.
Happy to hear it will become an annual trip

That's awesome you get to start annual trips now. Also crocodile area has always intrigued me. One of the eps I want to try. Also nice that he is into cribbage so young.

Awesome memories. Keep it up and continue annually! My son and I will embark on our 22nd consecutive next Tuesday. He's 28. No matter where he is or what is going on, he makes sure our trip happens! Started back in '99......

Fantastic trip report! I'm glad you guys had so much fun. My first trip to the BW was last year for my son's 21st birthday. We're looking forward to many more and I only wish we'd started when he was younger.

Mocha, it was one of my favorites too. I also liked how the author showed us the scenes with words first, so we could see them with our minds' eyes, and then the photos in order of those same scenes.

Wow, thanks so much for your kind words! It means a lot to me. I’m a relative newbie in these parts and have benefited so much from the forum, I’m pleased to finally contribute something.

I’ll keep in mind your feedback on the placement of pics, missmolly, though to be honest, I’m not sure I’d know how to place them anywhere else. Ha. Totally get what you mean though, and very glad to have described a scene worth worth picturing.

So encouraging to hear about others’ father-son traditions. We’re talking #2 already!

This was such a heartwarming trip report. It does indeed sound as though Josef has the wilderness bug. Thanks for sharing.

Hey, I know these fine people! :-) Great trip report! Got me all fired up for my trip coming up in a couple of weeks and was awesome to see pics of Josef having a blast. Was also interested in your Zoleo purchase. I've been thinking about picking up a sattelite communicator and wasn't aware of this one! Looks like exactly what I'm looking for (simpler and cheaper). :-) I was just thinking the other day about dropping you a line to see if you'd gone on a trip yet and how it went. I guess I know now! I remember you telling me about Josef's "hunt for the perfect Ramen". Too funny that he didn't even break it out! So happy for you guys that the trip was a success. Here's to many more in the years to come!

BTW - It looks like wolf scat to me. :-)

Willco!!

We're way past due to catch up and talk LouseFest 2022 possibilities. Was just thinking of you, too, so there's a sign! I'm sending you an email now. If the stars align, maybe I can catch you before you head north. Happy to give you my take on the Zoleo, but in brief, you're right, simple and relatively inexpensive, so perfect for me.

And we now have two votes for wolf (yours and mine). We'll see if it holds up. ;-)

I agree; this is one of the best trip reports I've read. Heartwarming. And: hope for the future! I wish more families could make it happen.

Hmmm, seems our wolf votes will not stand after all, djWillco.

For all you scoring at home, I have it on good authority that the scat encountered (and that is pictured in this trip report) was not wolf.

My scat sources tell me it was….otter.
