Doing my first solo backpacking trip in early August Entry point 59.
Two nights in a hammock tent. Looking for some tips for the area

I did the Rose Cliffs loop back in 2019 and loved it. It progresses from the Moss > South > BRT > CRT trails. The South Lake campsite is right on the water, but a hefty 300ft climb down (and back up in the morning!). The campsite also has a lot of potholes and fallen trees. A nice view and seating area though, with multiple hammock options.

The Partridge West campsite is very small and right on the water. Did not look for sleeping options but I reckon you'd be in the woods to hammock at this one. The Partridge East campsite is nicer with multiple hammock and tent spots, but also riddled with blowdown and some potholes. The spur trail from the BRT to the campsite is a bit rough given the blowdown but it wasn't terrible.

If you are just staying somewhere around the South Lake area, I suppose just camp on South for 2 nights, but the terrain on the BRT is so much more engaging and varied than the South Lake Trail. There isn't much to wander around on, I guess? That's why I'd recommend pushing over to the Partridge East campsite, since you get a taste of the BRT without hitting the harder parts (between Partridge and Rose Falls).

Now if you are actually doing the Rose Cliffs loop, over 2 nights, I'd do South > Partridge East, or in reverse if you are doing it counterclockwise. It's a very short walk, maybe 2.5 hours between South and Partridge East, but there aren't any campsites along the CRT to stop at (which would be ideal).

Went into that area last summer. Trip report

We paddled in and camped on Duncan but, we did visit Partridge and hiked to the BRT overlooks. The trail had recently been cleared.
