I want to see some canoe country gators! I am a bit inspired from my most recent Northern hunt in the Boundary Waters and I don't think these toothy critters get enough love!

This is one from 7 years ago when I went in the winter in the b'dub but I always thought it was one of the prettiest pike I have caught.

This gator is from the canoe country of the Okefenokee in the spring of 2018. He/she is one of 99 we saw on a three-day, two-night canoe trip.

" I see you released it. How long was it and how much did it weigh?

Nice Gators everyone! Hoping to get some more on my next two trips this year, but that will be in unfamiliar EPs to me, so we will see how it goes!

I have nearly no pike photos because we release them in the water, but on one trip, we took a net and got a few photos. Same with musky photos.

Well Capitan, you’ve forced me to admit to my lack of fishing skills. I didn’t actually release that one. In fact, I didn’t land it or even hook it or any of the many others we saw. I don’t remember how long or how much it weighed. However, I do recall that we estimated that the largest one we saw on that trip was about 12 feet long. That would be about 144 inches and maybe 750 pounds. That probably puts me in the lead for the biggest gator in this thread. Maybe someone else will come up with a bigger one.

interesting marks, was that early spring ? would have to be an awfully big fish to make those marks.

I just used the tackle I had on hand, an iPhone. If you get serious about these, I’d suggest something with a telephoto lens. I like to give these guys their space.
