I am committed to getting into hammock camping. Two years ago was my first time in a hammock and I slept one night in my nephews Amok Draumr. It was an awesome nights sleep!! I've been doing my research, bought the book "The Ultimate Hang" and watching videos. I have been camping in a cheapy hammock for a total of 7 nights so far just to gain experience and trying to figure out what I want in a hammock, etc. I watched this video and am interested in a Superior Hammock. I like the idea of the integrated underquilt as this past weekend my current underquilt would shift leaving my shoulder and/or my feet cold.
Have any of you used this hammock?
Your thoughts on the integrated underquilt?
What were your likes?
Dislikes?
If you could do it again, would you still buy a Superior Hammock?
Do you agree with his advice to get the 11 foot version? I'm 5'9".
Thanks for any advice or info you can share.

I’ve looked at them doing my research. What’s holding me back is no integrated bugnet.

Looks like it is an option here, Link
An option is a zippered insect shield for an additional $50. I take that as a zip in / zip out netting. Am I wrong?
I did compare the wordage to the Starlite and the two are worded differently.
Thanks for pointing that out.

Ahh, it looks like they made a new adjustment/ option for their bugnet in the form of a zippered bugnet.

The option I saw before was just a bottom- entry; which I knew I didn’t want & that’s why I lost my interest in them.

I'm currently waiting on one - I ordered one several months ago but changed my order to the new version with the zip-on bug net but was mistakenly sent the older version. I'll have an informal review once I get the newer version and get a chance to check it out. They also now have an even newer version using much lighter fabric and some other features. Shug used that version for his recent 5-day solo canoe trip video.

My $0.02 worth. I do have a Superior Hammock, a Dutch Chameleon (w/ integrated net) and Dutch Netless.

I bought my Superior Hammock exclusively for < 20 deg F camping where leaks between the hammock and under quilt are more critical. So, it's a SH -15F.
.
I have had NO issues w/ 20 & 30 degF & warmer hangs using a Hammock Gear Econ UQ w/ regards to air leaks and Cold Butt Syndrome.
So, for me - as I already have 40, 30 & 20 deg UQ's I'll stick to netless or Chameleon w/ the quilts I have for 20 deg and up.
IF you are getting into it and are considering a SH, then for what seasons / temps? Do you need more than one SH? One nice thing about a separate UQ, if you don't have a closet full of too much money spent :) , then a single 30 or 20 deg quilt can be vented, hung loose in warmer temps so you won't cook on a 60 deg night.
IF you are camping in the BWCA in high mosquito season, then I recommend a Bottom Entry or "Fronkey" style net anyway as it's much faster/easier to get in/out w/o mosquitos getting in. This bottom entry system is much more effective in that regard than the integrated net systems.
In a bottom entry net, I'd recommend Simply Light Designs. His design (and maybe others) have one end w/ a cinch cord so you can open it up and slide it off your setup to one end, if you don't need or want a net for the night.
.
IF I had NO equipment right now, would I go with SH?
As I camp year round w/ hammocks, I'd have to run the numbers. It's nice to have a hammock setup the way you like it (ridgeline organizers, peak shelfs, etc and simply swap the UQ you pack, .... So, I am not sold on a SH for 20 and 50 deg separate ??? Maybe, maybe not.
IF you're getting "only one" AND you want to camp at 20-40 deg AND 60-70 deg summer nights, THEN I'd stick w/ a netless hammock and separate UQs.
.
I like my sub-zero SH. It's not as long a coverage as HG Econ Incubator (I'm 6'3"), but it does cover. It's great for that temp range not to have to worry about leaks and CBS. I'm looking forward to giving a real test as I received it in the spring and have only taken it out to 30 deg so far (and it was plenty warm for that).
Shug's reviews and his winter trip is what got me to consider giving them a try for the winter season. Sold a very nice -10F UQ to help pay for the SH -15F and am glad I did from the little bit I had it out.

The down does seem to migrate on it's own towards the bottom, will have to see if that requires hand migrating the down up towards the feet once winter comes. I didn't notice my UGQ or HG quilts migrating on their own as much as the SH did.

Finally, at 5'9, I'd still recommend the 11ft version, both in terms of laying flat (longer = better) and coverage of the quilt.

Almost forgot -- the SH does appear narrower than the Dutch hammocks. Maybe you won't notice this at 5'9", but at 6'3", I wish the SH was a little wider. I had to hang my foot end significantly higher than my Dutch Hammocks to prevent my feet sliding out past the end of the insulation.
W/ a conventional quilt, you could also tackle this problem by tightening the secondary UQ suspension to pull it more to the foot end. w/ a SH if your natural laying spot ends up too much downhill or uphill, the only thing you can do is raise one end of the hammock so you stay put or stay centered on the insulation.

Superior Gear -15F -- buttoned closed w/ snaps integrated to SH - No TQ inside

U5C, Thanks for all your input. You bring up some things I haven't though of.
I originally purchased a cheap "Equip" brand hammock for $5 from WalMart when they had them on close-out. For another $5 I got a rain fly. I just wanted to try it out. I lounged in it a couple times while tent camping and it seemed like something I could get into. I ended up getting the "Fronkey" style bug net so I could do an overnighter. I didn't have a ridgeline at the time and I hung it too tight. I made it through the night but it wasn't my best nights sleep. After a couple more trips with it I decided to try a wider hammock so got one that's 74" wide off of Amazon. It has the integrated netting. Being wider I feel like I get a better diagonal lay so that is what I've been using the last four outings.
Since my original post I've spent about 6 nights in the new one. I'm still having issues with the underquilt wanting to shift to one side or the other but I think that is because I had the bungee adjusters on the sides too tight? I've loosened them and we'll see what happens the next time I'm out.
After reading the comments I'm now eyeballing the Superior Gear Starlight, but after your thoughts on the bottom entry style bugnet I may go back to my original hammock and try the underquilt on that one again and see if I get any better results. I did get an adjustable ridgeline and am surprised about how much a 2 inch change in the ridgeline changes the hang.
I'm not in any big hurry to make a decision / purchase. I just want to gain enough knowledge and experience that I make an informed decision when that time comes. Thanks again for your thoughts.
