That's a big trip for a first timer! You didn't say for sure how much your wife loved it ;).

I thought that portage from poplar to needs was 360 +/- rods? It's a decent portage, just longish.

Looking forward to more about the trip

I love that area. My last 3 trips have been in that area. The portage from Caribou to Horseshoe is pretty quick and easy. I like to stay at the Horseshoe campsite just to the SE of the portage for a quick an easy exit. Campsite to car in an hour and that includes paddling on 4 different lakes.

It definitely was a hot one during that period. I came off trail a day earlier than planned, too. Going in at Meeds was ambitious for a first-timer (hopefully your wife didn't hate you for it). I agree that it is a wonderful gift to get to experience the BW through the eyes of a first time visitor so it was great you had the opportunity to take your wife. Hopefully it will become a regular thing for you.
