You seem to live in a state of gratitude. That's the best state.

I am thinking of doing this loop in a few days. I have done it before but I started at Baker. My concern is with camp sites. It seems like you had very little trouble with that. Did you see several open on the other lakes.

Cherokee had lots of campsites open. Weird was open. Jack was full. We didn't pay attention to Kelly, Burnt, or Smoke due to fighting the wind, but there were numerous parties entering those lakes hoping to camp in the morning despite the high winds. You are right to be concerned about campsites on this loop. Stay flexible and take what you can get. With busy entries like Sawbill and Brule so close together, these lakes do get full quickly. Two weeks later I went through the lady chain and it was much quieter (trip report pending).

That’s wonderful having so many interactions with turtles. Oils be that the snapper was searching the shore for stringers of fish - I’ve seen them do that - the live a long time and they know where the easy food is! Loved all of the close up photographs and synopsis of flowering plants at the end. I really should learn more about them. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. I might be wise to choose the lady chain but was really wanting the Cherokee loop. I will likely not make up my mind until the day of my trip.

I already knew a lot about flowers in the BWCA before this trip, but we also brought along a great book I bought recently: Canoe Country Flora: Plants and Trees of the North Woods and Boundary Waters by Mark Stensaas

It is fantastic reading! So many fun facts and cool info. Everyone on the trip read parts of it and then shared what they learned because it was so interesting. I learned a lot from it!

Your report brought back some lovely memories, as that is my favorite campsite--the one on Cherokee. Have stayed there twice and loved it.

We have done most of this this trip, except we didn't do Sitka. Had some of the most fun moose sightings of our lives when we stayed two nights on Weird in 1992.

You are fortunate to be close enough to get multiple trips a year. Never had that option.

Enjoyed reading about your trip through familiar territory. I am now wondering if I've walked on buried turtle eggs at campsites. yikes!
Cherokee Creek and Cherokee Lake are quite beautiful. It's strenuous but a wonderful loop. Give a pat to Morgan on the back as she proved to be a trooper.
