I'm only able to keep tabs on things from afar online but I've been seeing some rain systems (according to radar) move over the BWCA and Quetico. Can anybody local confirm that waters hitting the ground? And if so, any noticeable or rumored effect on the fires?

TIA

The U.S. Forest Service-Superior National Forest held a news conference last night (7/21) and gave great detail on what's going on. It's lengthy, but really informative.

Jaywalker: " Link to FS Fire Update Meeting "

Jaywalker, thanks for all the alerts and links to this session. It was really helpful. I wouldn't have known about it otherwise, as I don't follow FB. Had to set up an account as Jill Pine. lol thank you!

Coming out at EP16 on July 19, I chatted with 2 rangers between the portages south of Nina Moose. The rangers were heading north to help evac a party or two on Oyster. Prior to meeting these rangers, I had been dumped on with what seemed close to 1/2 inch of rain as I made my way from Agnes to Nina. The rain lasted about an hour. When I asked these rangers if the rain helped with the Q fires in the Roland/Argo area, they said no. We'll need much more rain--maybe up to 10 inches. They were really worried about north or west winds, which could lead to more BWCA closures along the border further east, to include Basswood as far as Knife and Sag. It looks like west winds predicted for tomorrow and Sunday....

Let's hope these winds don't lead to more closures. We. Need. Rain.
