I did see that somewhere....from a boat right?

It didn't specify in the DNR report.

Certainly, the muske from Vermillion came from a motorboat, but since Basswood is both, its hard to say.

I have on GoPro a GIANT northern I nearly caught on basswood, and I'll say getting that sucker into a canoe sure would have been a feat! I should upload that video of mine.

This makes no sense
There was a 45 pound pike caught in Basswood many years ago.
I have caught two 45 inch pike in the Quetico, in a canoe, with no net.

A few years ago the state implemented a catch-and-release record program for trophy fish that weren't kept. It's only judged by total length of the fish.

What jdlunde said plus that alleged 45# Northern was never certified…even decedents of the record holder from that 1929 fish have reported that the alleged fish was possibly a hoax.

I have posted this before on this forum- buddy hooked and I landed his 50.25" Pike on Alpine near the inflow from Jasper on Opening morning 1997. catch and release. Before the current regs of catch and release "records"-- I get it. ( we did nothing but take a pic / release fish/ and lose pic and all credibility to those that were not present. I get it that no one believes it as no "proof". But 45" record is weak and will certainly be broke for many years. A 45" Pike is not that big, in the big spectrum of BIG PIKE> Anyone that fishes that rapids in the Spring over time knows of Pike well over 44" caught in many years. Congrats to the record holder though as an official record!!! Still an awesome pike!!!

I'd agree. That pike in the OP looks prehistoric.

Something storic... haha! Some great fishing bodies of water. I know a Few people have speared a number that big up there. Coarse your not releasing those. But man that’s a lotta fish. Jonah wasn’t in his belly was he? Haha!

Yes it is Ben no matter the records! Best I've done is 42 on a baitcaster from Ima and a 31 on the flyrod In Quetico.

But man, eh no it's butthead

That thing is a beast! My biggest was about 15 lbs. A baby compared that the one in the pic. Makes me want to go fishing.

I caught a monster northern once. It was longer than the tape measure on my canoe. It was huge. I also caught a 62-inch sturgeon once. It was taller than me

Wow and WOW! I can't imagine a 62-inch sturgeon in a canoe. It must have pulled your canoe, right?
