Hello,

With summer draught, not sure if late rains have replenished BWCA or water levels still really low. Anyone know?

2 weeks ago we had low water. Rained 3 times over our 8 days in....one night really hard. No change. They've had more rain since but not enough. A half inch or inch once or twice a week in sept/oct has little to no affect on a drought summer. You would need heavy rains 2 to 3 times a week to make a change. Going to need a lot of snow and a super wet April/May to get water levels up.

Just got back from basswood and water levels were down between 3 & 5 ft.

US Drought Monitor. The extreme "red" areas are shrinking, including in the Arrowhead, but as cowdoc pointed out above, it'll take a lot of rain and heavy snows to fully reverse the status quo.

Captn T.
How was the fishing and water temps.

Just got back from Tiger bay, water levels are very low, but the fishing was good enough for me. boated a 22" smallmouth, which was a personal best. The biggest challenge I have seen from the lower water levels is how they change the landings at the camp sites. You have to keep remembering that every exposed rock close to the water is crazy slippery when wet as the algae or whatever it is reactivates (from a slippery texture standpoint) when wet.

The Moose river water levels are good enough thanks to a couple of beaver dams.

Thanks the fishing was good. Caught a lot of eyes but nothing big but caught a lot of nice crappie, the biggest being 14.5”. I guess the bite slowed down from the previous week as the temperatures got warmer. Seems the crappie were at 25 to 30 and the walleye were at 20 to 35’. We couldn’t seem to find many smallmouth or northerns.
Found the fish in classic summer spots, humps and points.
The last day at the end of the day we got into a couple of schools of huge rock bass and that was a lot of fun.
I believe water temps were around 60, 65 degrees.
We fished Pipestone the whole time.

Just got back, did Lakes 1-4, Hudson, Insula, and water IS LOW! 18-24 inches? Glad did not go river routes or muddy routes, as low water just meant longer walk on walks to original portage. Thanks all for input.

Glad that worked out for you. I do that route one fall and just loved. I saw Boone on Thomas which was the farthest that I traveled before turning around and heading back out.

The forest fires made me think of a return to life that I may or may not see. Guess like grandparents seeing a new born.
