The park was closed last year after the derecho, but is open now. How would November 13-14 work for anyone interested?
For those not familiar McBride is an IA State Park just north of Iowa City. We camp in the south camping area which is on the lake shore. Primitive sites with toilets, no showers. Set on a slope in an oak grove.

Ben,
Thanks for scheduling. I just added it to the calendar for my son and me.

Hi Ben,
I can likely make that. Thanks! Ray

I'd like to but have to see as it gets closer

Sounds like a good idea to me! Got it penciled in. Maybe we can hear about Wally13's trip down the Mississippi this summer. :-)

Thanks Ben!

Good memories of Lake McBride during my U of I days 1970-74.

I'm wondering if Mike (Wally13) is on that Mississippi trip right now, which could be why he hasn't chimed in?

10/22/2021 06:04PM
Sorry boys … I haven’t been paying attention to bwca.com threads like I normally do.

I finished the Mississippi River trip to the Gulf on September 21.

I can make McBride Nov 13 and 14 … looking forward to hooking up with you all.

11/01/2021 12:18PM
Bumping this as we are 2 weeks out. Hoping for good weather.

11/01/2021 12:30PM
Still in, here. May well be chilly; good campfire weather for sure.

11/01/2021 12:30PM
Going to be cool

mike2019: "Good memories of Lake McBride during my U of I days 1970-74.

Back then spending a Saturday at Lake McBride would definitely be more fun then watching the football game! Things have changed however.
Go Cyclones!

I see a half dozen hearty souls lined up to hear Wally 13's Tales of the Mississippi. Hearty would be the word. Forecast is high of 40 and down to 29 overnight. We are in a sheltered area from the NW winds, but paddling might be less than optimal.

So what will be the final count? I have the time blocked and can handle the conditions, count on my dutch oven egg bake for breakfast.

11/08/2021 07:10AM
I'm still looking forward to it! I plan to bring a pot of chili and hopefully garlic bread for Saturday supper.
If memory serves, the last time we were there, the water was still turned on but was really rusty. Ben have you heard the drinking water status this year?

11/08/2021 09:20AM
Still in, here. I'll make some dutch oven nachos and bring some side dishes.

11/08/2021 02:01PM
I will be there. I can bring a dessert. Not sure I will be canoeing though. Looking forward to meeting up with you all. I have plenty of stories to tell about my Mississippi River Trip.

I'm going to bring bbq ribs and jalapeno corn bread.

11/09/2021 09:53AM
Have not talked with staff so unsure about water or the great firewood supply we have experienced on past gatherings. I will bring 4 gallons of RO filtered water.
For now watching the weather and looking forward to seeing folks. Sounds like food mostly covered. Breakfast beverages anyone?

11/09/2021 10:25AM
I have 4 bundles of firewood left over from an RV camping trip in Indiana this past weekend. I will bring to McBride. Hope there is more wood available at the Park like we had on our last visit. Going to be cool and we will need a nice warm fire upon arrival til bedtime.

11/09/2021 11:22AM
I'll bring a sack of coffee. Have one camper french press....

The primitive camping area east of the causeway on the south arm of the lake?? I know they're doing some road construction at the main state park double boat ramp area on the other end of the lake.

And yes, right in North Liberty's back yard! Could bike to it from there if that's where you live! haha

11/09/2021 02:37PM
I just talked to the ranger at Macbride. He verified the primitive bathroom is open and the water is still turned on. He thought the wood bin was empty though.
I will bring some firewood too... Saturday evening and Sunday morning look to be cold with a chance of snow.
Camping fee is $6.00 at the self-register station.

11/09/2021 02:57PM
Thanks for the ranger check. I will bring some oak.

11/09/2021 03:00PM
Cyclones30 … how’s harvest going ? Do you have your corn and beans all in ?

Yeah, just wrapping up. Which is good for how the forecast sounds for the next few days.

Now if I could figure out this long-haul covid _____ I'd be great. Daily headaches, constant ears ringing, all worse when driving, among many other things. So I'm not doing much till I'm feeling better.....which hopefully is sooner than later. I'm a year and half into this junk

Good to hear you are wrapping up harvest. Hope your harvest was bountiful. Sorry to hear about the after effects of your bout with Covid.

I was an agricultural chemical sales representative for 41 years and retired last June. I really love fall on the farm. I miss riding in combines and talking with farmers about their production plans and visit about what programs worked and what didn’t. I miss waking corn and soybean fields and evaluating population stands, weed control success, disease presence, yields etc. I miss the smell of soil after chisel plowing.

Man … I could go on and on … hope we can hook up sometime.

11/10/2021 08:26AM
I'll bring some firewood, also.

I worked as an agronomist at a coop for 20 years in my previous life!

Tony … we will have to get together and talk shop sometime!

11/10/2021 12:36PM
Paddling and farming...good topics.
I haven't driven a tractor in many years, but can still feel the brisk air and hear the putt putt of the John Deere 70 pulling the plow on a crisp November night. Headlights only good for a few feet. The smell of dirt turning. The Milky Way above.

haha back when tractor model numbers were only 2 digits! now add a few more numbers and letters and a few more zeros on the price tag

Weather is deteriorating. Cold is ok, wind not so much, wet no way. We have all three so unless anyone is really upset lets not get together this weekend.
And next year lets set an October weekend if we can.

11/12/2021 07:42AM
I agree Ben.

Let’s get together when the weather is better and we can also do some canoeing as well.

11/12/2021 08:34AM
Snowing here in Bettendorf right now.

Guess I will be watching Iowa Hawkeyes vs Minnesota at home tomorrow. GO HAWKS !

11/12/2021 08:35AM
I agree, let's pull the plug.

11/12/2021 09:07AM
Ah dang. Was looking forward to some type 2 fun and get-together, but I get it.

Agreed, I was really looking forward to it as well! I guess I can remove all the firewood from the back of my car now. I was loaded for bear... or maybe I should say loaded for brrr

Just checked Ia City weather, 36 degrees and snow with temps down to 32 and gusty winds coming in when the snow stops, gusts up to 40 mph. I for one am glad I am home just back from a nice hike and ready to sit in front of the fire in the family room.
Looking forward to next year.
