So does anyone else get obsessed with the planning process of your next trip? I literally have it on my mind 24/7. Normally this time of year I am focused on being in my climbing stand deer hunting. Or preparing for a week of camping in the cold during the week of gun season. This year is different. I am solely focused on my June 2022 trip. It is the flying moose and the good people on this forum that helps keep me from driving my family crazy talking about my trip daily. I also found a picture from the last trip I had in the BW back in 2015. 2015!!! Way Too Long between trips. I intend on not letting that happen again.

So grateful for this forum and finding old photos.

Definitely time for you to get back out there! I just got back from a quick weekend trip up there and it is time to pack away the gear until spring. But I am already starting to think about where I want to go this summer and how many trips I want to take...

Indeed, time to get reacquainted. Sadly this site hasn't spared my wife or son from my BWCA ramblings. I'm pretty certain they're employing some serious selective hearing at the moment. The last few trips as soon as I arrive home I'm into the maps planning the next excursion north.
Enjoy the planning & the trip!

shc - wish I lived close enough to get some weekend trips in or even multiple full length trips in a season. 16 hour drive does not allow for that to be accomplished easily. I will live vicariously through you and others that have that option. Hope your weekend trip was a good one.
martian - really enjoying the planning for this trip. I started early and have been able to procure the proper equipment to finally be fully outfitted minus the canoe. My wife probably thinks I have a slight problem because every night I am on the message board and have my note books and maps out planning. Fail to plan, plan to fail. Like you I know I will be planning my next trip as soon as I get back.

Cheers!

Yeah, I'm always planning the next trip--the last few seasons, I've been planning "next year's" trip BEFORE I've taken "this year's" trip! Often recruiting new people to consider joining me as well. Many I've talked to a number of years ago only to bring it up to them again (and again!).

Regularly finding a new map that looks interesting as well. Can never have too many maps! :)

I feel your pain, it’s been a month since I’ve been up there and it’s pretty much all I think about. I’m so obsessed that after I retire at the end of the year my plans are to work at an outfitters for a few weeks in May. Also plan to go to Quetico for a week and the bdub with the grandkids ofor a few days. I’m closer then peacefrog however, only an 8 to 9 hour drive depending on which area I go to.

I'm Envious of your retirement plans. I have yet to make it into Quetico for a trip but it is on my list for the future. 221 days 15 hours til I head north

My wife refers to my time on the forum as canoe porn. Started planning my May 2022 trip about a month ago.

Hell if I know! Probably a loop that includes Little Sag. Start at ep52 and stay north through Gillis-French-West Fern and return via Mora -Crooked back to Gillis and out.
I also have considered a big loop starting at ep 50 south through Long Island to Frost and take the Frost river up to Little Sag. Water levels may rule out any river trips; low water this year and it will take a ton of snow to bring things back to normal. Another consideration will be portage length and condition. I double portage and at 72 (in July) I need to keep my ground travel at 3 miles per day or less and the Frost river loop has one very long day with no camp sites.

I think at this time a 10 to 16 day trip, a day of travel followed by a rest/explore day. Extra days to explore Gillis, Crooked and Little Saganaga. That's today! Next week something on the map will catch my eye and off I go in a new direction.

Right on. I know the feeling. You get focused on one spot and think you nailed it then like a squirrel you jump to another spot. I'll probably look at the east end for my next trip since I have only tripped over there one time. Right now I'm locked in on EP16 even though it is a hot spot compared to others. Got a few items in that area I want to check off my list. Keep on truckin! You give me inspiration to keep tripping the BW even when I approach 72.
Best - PF

I understand completely! I spare my wife and kids and get my fix on this board, and a lot of YouTube surfing. I also have a ton of maps and am always planning on where I can potentially go. As my kids are getting older, options expand, and all are dying to go up there. I don't think I could ever spend enough time in the area, and at 10 hours driving it's not something where I can just drop in. Maybe one day!
