Throw your suggestions my way for our spring trip....really would love to see some wildlife other than fish, charging wild grouse and pissed off squirrels. Lol!

Typically we stay out three to four nights. Not opposed to giving base camping a try. Cool with moving camp as well. Looking for hiking trails, great fishing for northerns and awesome views. We have done Gunflint to Hungry Jack, Kawishiwi, Brule and a handful of others. Region doesn't matter. Again we are open to whatever.

It will be my husband and me with our shepherd.....and for a change, he is letting me plan the route so I need to wow him with my borrowed (suggested routes from all you fabulous people) route suggestions!

Several options come to mind:
Entry 47 - Lizz Lake - Head to Horseshoe or Gaskin Lakes. Lots of day trip and fishing options here. Good moose viewing throughout this area.

Entry 50 - Cross Bay. Head to Long Island Lake. Variety of fish in here. Day trips south to Frost Lake again. East to Muskeg Lake and Kiskadinna.

In 4 nights, you could make a nice trip from Entry 50 to Entry 47 (Or vice versa depending on which permit you can get.) It's an easy shuttle from one spot to the other with good outfitters on either end. (Rockwood Outfitters on Poplar Lake and Tuscarora Outiftters on Round Lake - about a 1/4 mile from entry 50.)

Entry 38 - Sawbill Lake
A. Head north to Cherokee Lake. Beautiful lake with lake trout and northern. Day trip to Frost Lake for sand beaches and more northern fishing. Day trip to the Temperance Lakes (North and South) for more variety in fish.

B. Head to Kelso Lake. Stick right around Sawbill Lake area. Fish Kelso Lake for northern. Fish Alton for Bass and Walleye. Fish Sawbill for everything. Head up the Kelso River to Lujenida for a chance to see moose.

C. Head west to Grace or Phoebe Lake for bass and walleye fishing. If you go to Phoebe Lake, you can day trip west along the Phoebe River to Knight and Hazel Lakes. Or back to Grace Lake.

D. For a little visited part of the wilderness, consider heading south out of Alton Lake to Wonder Lake. Day trip to Sunhigh and Sunlow Lakes. Not much in the way of day trips from here, but you can head back to Alton for more fishing variety.

Need less portaging, bigger water?
Entry 54 - Sea Gull Lake - Make the loop - Sea Gull, Alpine, Red Rock Lake, Red Rock Bay, Saganaga lake. The entry/exit are on different sides of the parking lot! I would head to Red Rock Lake and day trip to Alpine and Red Rock Bay on Saganaga Lake for different scenery and fishing waters.

Another loop with more paddling takes you out to Ogishkemuncie and then to South Arm of Knife Lake and back through Hanson, Ester and Ottertrack Lake to Saganaga again. Less time for fishing on a four day trip, but some great scenery.

We just did a 4 day trip out of Sea Gull that went Sea Gull to Ogish, Ogish to Little Sag. LIttle Sag to Gillis (through Virgin, West Fern, Powell, and French). Gillis to Round Lake. Again a short shuttle back to Sea Gull to get our vehicle.

Hope you have a great trip.
