Looking to get a rack but not on my F150. It is too high up! So that leaves my wife's Ford Fusion.
The rack that will fit only has 28" between the bars. Wondering how this will work out.
Advice will be appreciated!
Thanks!

Didn't you ask this a week ago in the Gear Forum? And got a number of answers that leaned toward 'yes, it should work, if you do this'...??

I understand your apprehension; our Toyota Highlander rack attachment points provide a 27.5" bar spread which Yakima says is too short. When I posted about it here 4 years ago, opinions were mixed. I wound up selling the roof rack system components and have been happy with foam blocks and cam straps - 2 over the canoe, 2 at the front, 2 at the back.

I disagree that an F150 is too high to haul canoes. I’ve done the same thing many many times. One person gets in the truck bed and helps it on the racks other person pushes it on the racks. I currently have a jacked up 2500 that is even higher and have zero problems. A pickup is perfect for canoe trips, canoe on top, gear in the bed. If I had the two choices of a pickup and a small sedan I know what I would pick.

A pick up is my preferred canoe carrier.

My dodge van next.

Both have plenty of room for gear.

This is how I do it with a G5. I haul about 1000 miles each way with no problems.

Not to high. I can load all of these alone.

I thought I asked here. Saw that it wasn't here so I asked again!
Must have had a brain fart!
